Happy Veteran's Day
What makes a 17 or 18 year old student say yes to the recruiter wearing the uniform of one of the 5 branches of the United States Military (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard)? Is it the money for college? Is it actually for love of country? Is it just to have a job because you don't see how else you are going to find a job? Is it because people that you knew in high school said you couldn't make it through basic training? Well for me all of these were reasons why I rsised my right hand and swore to protect the United States, the Constitution, and all interests from all enemies (foreign and domestic). Once I was in the Army I met so many others who joined because of one of the reasons above or a variation of a combination of several of those reasons listed.
Well on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 (am) the Armistice dnding World War I was signed ending the war. Initially in the United States we observed this day as Armistice Day, then as Remembrance Day and finally Veteran's Day. There are only two days a year where we remember our troops: Memorial Day when we remember thosre who have paid the ultimate sacrifice giving their lives for our countries freedom, and Veteran's Day to honor those who served and returned.
So, if you run into any veterans today; shake their hands, give them a hug and say thank you.
God bless our veterans and current military soldiers, airmen and women, sailors and marines!

That is quite the list.
How long were you in?
FYI I also spent 2 years in Wertheim Germany on Peden Barracks with the 4/27 FA. Plus one year in the reserves, but I could not stand it so I took advantage of the early outs that were being offered during the early 90's.

Hooah. I wanted to go airborne but never did. My deathly fear of heights was never the reason. When I was stationed with the 6th Eng Bn we had the 1/501 Airborne Inf. They made it known they were the first airborne unit in them Army. We called them the First of the 5-0 worst.
