College Football Playoff Selection Committee Protocol

4. Number of Teams to Be Ranked. The committee will rank 25 teams. If no champion of a non-contract conference is among that group, then the committee will conduct an additional process to identify the top-ranked champion of those conference champions.

Got it! Thanks folks for the help.

Duke didn't lose to one of the worst teams in the ACC though. Miami is in 2nd in the Coastal and VT who beat Ohio State is getting hammered by everyone they face.

I agree with you but I think Duke's a better team than tOSU

I thought about WVU's placement, and wondered if any of their position had anything to do with a "friendly" vote or two for a fellow member of the committee (Oliver Luck)? I don't begrudge WVU their spot as their losses were quality losses, but a three loss team, regardless of who it is, seems to be a ridiculous statement for the committee to make at this point in the season.
They aren't allowed to talk about or vote on an affiliated team, so Luck would have to leave while they discuss WVU.

Ohio State unexpectedly lost Braxton Miller before the season and had to bring in a freshman to start. VT was the first real defense he ever faced since they played Navy week one. Since the VT game they have rolled everybody. If Duke and tOSU played Saturday Duke would be a 17 point dog and probably wouldn't cover.

Duke has wins over this powerhouse schedule:

Elon
Troy 1-8
Kansas 2-6
Tulane 2-6
Georgia Tech 7-2 (with a schedule like Duke's)
Virginia 4-5
Pitt 4-5

All their P5 wins, except Kansas, were one score games.

Ohio State has nothing better so far.

RE: No Joy in CFB Ranking. NO surprise either
Ohio State's beaten 3 winning teams by 3-5 touchdowns a piece and a .500 team. Duke has beaten a single winning team by 6 points and played 4 100+ teams. Ohio State has played a single 100+ team. OSU's SOS is higher and their opponents have won 47% of games. Duke's opponents have won 37% of games. As much as it pains me, I'd say OSU has been more impressive.

Surely you aren't that naive.

Well I'm not paranoid enough to think that the reason WVU is ranked where they are because one person broke the rules just so he could give one vote that would only affect their ranking by two spots at most.

i think that anytime there is a human element involved there is an opportunity for bias. These days, to assume that 13 people could be wholly objective is optimistic to say the least. I'm not as trusting, especially when there are hundreds of millions of dollars involved. jmo.
