Lloyd was talented but he didn't take care of the football. Where he is now, he's probably got more protection, and he's doing well.

Chris Campbell looked good in the 37 minutes of football he got to play. Of the last 26.5 months of my life as a football fan, that was probably the best 37 minutes.

ah, the failure of campbell.....what a shame from a guy that had all the physical tools...

lloyd was splitting time at wherever he is and is no longer getting playing time....Monk knew.....'just trust me' is the most I can state...

NG used to post here. He hasn't been seen though since the middle of 2011.

And protection is the key to any QB having success. If you have holes in your OL I don't care how talented your QB is, he will fail.

I think if we hire anyone other than pappy buttermilk Sunshine would have been fine.

Unfortunately right now our capable backups are either not eligible due to transfer rules or likely not ready because of redshirting and running the scout team.

New found appreciation for Nick Mullens though. I thought he was decent before, but now I think much more of him.

If memory serves me correctly, it's been close to 20 years since we've had a mid season QB change that has worked and Nick Mullens is the first one since Lee Roberts did so in 1995

Starting with 1994 but don't remember the exact scenario:

- Heath Graham started mid season had been 2 year starter but was benched for Lee Roberts in 1996 who turned out great for next 2 years

- Jeff Kelly started 1999 through 2001 and graduated

- Mickey D'Angelo and Dustin Almond rotated most of 2002-2003 seasons

- 2004 Damion Carter came in relief and had a great game against Nebraska but tanked from there

- 2005 through 2007 or so Stephen Reaves came in relief of starter Jeremy Young but never was effective

- 2008 through 2011 Austin Davis was 4 year starter

- 2012 Anthony Alford did good his first game off the bench but that was it. Ricky Lloyd had a good game in relief but that was it.

- 2013 Nick Mullens came off the bench and has been the starter since. 2014 Cole Weeks comes off bench and has decent game against La Tech but not much in next game as starter

So my question is "Is it just me or does it seem we rarely have a capable backup. They have the one great game when thrown into action but if they have all week to prepare, it turns into a nightmare?"

Can't believe you left out Cable Davis who was supposed to start ahead of Kelly in '99 and completed 13 passes in his illustrious career.
