Looks like it was a direct hit on his left shoulder with terrible whiplash. Definitely nasty but not helmet to helmet imo.

Well, you're just wrong. Yes he lowers his head and his shoulder and side of his head hits the player solidly in the upper chest. Not hard to see if you look closely.

In today's football that should probably be a penalty.

However, in my view of the game (pre-2000ish), that is a clean, hard, and violent hit. It happens. That's football.

I saw that hit from the endzone and you could clearly see that his shoulder hit him first. No helmet to helmet there.

If that is a penalty and an "illegal hit", they might as well just be given flags to wear...NCAA Division I Flag Football. It was a hard hit, and one I'm certain that USM WR will remember for quite some time, but it wasn't illegal, nor dirty. The impact was the UTEP defender's helmet and left shoulder pads into the USM WR's chest. Good form tackle.

Doesn't matter if it's helmet to helmet contact. Yes, helmet to helmet is part of the penalty. But the other part of the penalty is if the guy leads with his helmet on a defenseless player OR if he launches himself.

Not saying one of those happens. Just want to be clear on the definition of the penalty.

It's undeniable he made initial contact and led/targeted with the helmet....the contact was on the upper right portion of the body....both got lucky our receiver wasn't a half-step farther down-field.....one can't help the blind anymore than that

the more I go to games along with what people say and post, the more I like watching by myself.....

I think two helmets have to hit, but I don't know, it could actually mean something else

Did you see it on the replay from the end zone? because if you sat front row in the end zone you were sitting at least 90 yds from the play
