CUSA bowl eligibilty scenarios - updated 11-9-14
With everyone having either 2 or 3 games left here is what remains as CUSA goes for 6 (or more) bowl eligible teams:

ELIGIBLE:
Marshall (9-0) - Rice, @UAB, WKU
La Tech (7-3) - @ODU, Rice
Rice (6-3) - @Marshall, UTEP, @La Tech

ON THE BRINK:

UTEP (5-4) - UNT, @Rice, Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee (5-4) - @FIU, FAU, @UTEP
UAB (5-5) - Marshall, @USM

SLIM CHANCE:
WKU (4-5) - Army, UTSA, @Marshall

ONE MORE LOSS AND DONE:
ODU and UNT

ELIMINATED:
USM, UTSA, FIU, FAU

none

I think 6 it is this season! Pretty clear cut to me as I would be shocked if WKU wins on Homecoming...If we win Sat. than maybe we can get to 6 wins which would be 7 bowl eligible teams, but right now 6 for me is the clear cut number of teams we will have eligible this season..

UAB does not have an easy schedule to end season, wow, you guys winning at FAU really did wonders on becoming bowl eligible or at least a good chance....

I would really love to see 7 teams become bowl eligible. That creates the best travel scenarios for everyone.

Tough road for the Blazers. 2 best teams in C-USA right now and a game at USM.

I recognize that you guys got a tough road ahead of you, but that last win is on the schedule somewhere. Hopefully not against TECH. Southern Miss is never easy no matter what the records are.

I think if WKU can find any type of defensive play, they have a real shot at UTEP.

With a win at UTEP, they'll get to six over Army and UTSA. The Runners have packed it in.

We need 7 bowl eligible teams. Utep is playing lights out right now too.

Lotta tougher roads now at this point in the season. Rice has road games at Marshall and La Tech, and a home game vs. UTEP, so that's 3 of the 5 non-Rice teams with winning records to close. Will feel better with a homecoming win vs. UTSA

A UTSA win would take a good bit of pressure off you guys.

RE: CUSA bowl eligibilty scenarios
My predictions

ELIGIBLE:
Marshall (8-0) - @USM, Rice, @UAB, WKU -> Win out, Peach Bowl
La Tech (6-3) - @UAB, @ODU, Rice -> Win 2 of 3, win West, Independence Bowl

ON THE BRINK:
Rice (5-3) - UTSA, @Marshall, UTEP, @La Tech -> Win 3 of 4, HoD Bowl
UTEP (5-3) - @WKU, UNT, @Rice, Middle Tennessee -> Win 2 of 4, New Mexico Bowl
Middle Tennessee (5-4) - @FIU, FAU, @UTEP -> Win 2 of 3, Bahamas Bowl
UAB (5-4) - La Tech, Marshall, @USM -> Win 1 of 3, Boca Raton Bowl

Still leaves the Hawaii Bowl unfilled. Western Kentucky might be the most likely with home games against UTEP, Army and UTSA. FAU or FIU could win out, but they both have to go through Middle. Hard to see Southern Miss, North Texas or UTSA winning out.

If there's only six bowl teams, then we lose the Independence. So maybe La Tech to the Heart of Dallas, Rice to New Mexico and UTEP to Hawaii? Unless Rice wants Hawaii, then I'm sure UTEP will keep New Mexico.

I would love to see WKU get that Hawaii slot. They have had some good seasons go unrewarded recently.

I also feel like CUSA would work hard to keep all teams regional if possible and maybe a swap of Hawaii to a Sunbelt Team or AAC team would be in the cards.

SBC Would never agree to a swap to Hawaii, frankly we cant afford to send a league team there. Its a multi million dollar loss for our schools.

Side note question, but does anyone have any idea what the relationship is like between Tech and the Independence Bowl after the whole mess two years ago? Could the I Bowl potentially say no to Tech just out of spite, or will the ticket sales be hard to pass up?

I'm not saying swap bowls. What I'm saying is you may have more than three bowl eligible teams and it could be worked out where you fill that slot.

The Independance Bowl committee has been to the last two Tech home games. I feel like the fences have been mended. The players involved with the 2012 debacle have all moved on to other jobs.

We have to fill hawaii before independence. Its a primary contract.

I think bowl teams will be

Marshall
La tech
Rice
Utep
UAB
MTU

Think we got 6. The MAC and sunbelt will thank us for leaving 1 unfilled (assuming MU to peach).

It would be a major coup IF (I SAID IF) an undefeated Marshall played a 9-3 La Tech for the CUSA champ which Marshall wins and goes on to the Access Bowl; the 4 teams with 5 wins gets 1 more win each AND then for WKU to win 3 of their final 4 to give CUSA 7 bowl eligible teams. We can hope and wish right???

The New Mexico Bowl will take UTEP before anyone else in CUSA. The last time UTEP played in the New Mexico it was the second highest attended game they have had, only behind a game where UNM played.

Gotta say I hope UAB gets bowl eligible against LaTech. We don't need them having a reason to beat us outside for the sake of doing it.

UAB has only defeated 3 AP-ranked C-USA teams... out of the 6 they've played.

Agree. UTEP has very much surprised me. It now looks as though UTEP will finish the season with at least 7 wins. I see UTEP beating WKU, UNT and maybe MTU.
