RE: Bowl Preference?
I don't want to play in the Miami Bowl..... not because I don't respect BYU, but because the game is on Monday December 22nd at 2pm. A lot of people will still be at work and the TV ratings for that game will be in the toilet.

I know UC doesn't get to select, but I would love to see us play Louisville in one of those games tied in with the ACC.

Did some checking, and it looks like the AAC may have some secondary agreements to fill spots that have openings due to non-qualifiers. I believe that is the case with the Liberty Bowl.

Love to return to Liberty Bowl. It was a great time.

We've attended most, but not all; the Liberty Bowl was our best experience. The weather was unseasonably warm, hospitality was fine and the drive home was shorter after a victory. An especially sweet win after hearing the Vandy fans chanting "S-E-C" during the game.

Really Law? As poor as this league is?

And, I guess I have to include us in there as well, at least relative to expectations. Doss, we are in no position to pick and choose our bowl at this time. But, yeah, as long as you're asking - Miami is far and away my preference.

I agree on all points. The funny thing in Vandy is about as much SEC as Northwestern is B1G. Neither fits the member profile.

Since the 2 programs are probably otherwise similar, I suspect the game Thursday is for the right to choose between those 2 options (Military or Miami).

RE: Bowl Preference?
After the Memphis and Miami (FL) losses and a dismal start to the season defensively, either of these bowls would be a much better ending than what we envisioned a few short weeks ago.

RE: Bowl Preference?
"Bowl games will be placed based on best fit for the Conference and its membership." - AAC website

Placement of teams has nothing to do with order of finish if you don't make the Access Bowl. The 2014 contracted bowls will choose, and negotiate with other bowls, to find the best fit.

What is scary is the bowl lineup for 2015. Of the seven contracted bowls, only two has opponents in the P5. And those are the Birmingham and Military Bowls. Two bowls are against CUSA teams, one Mountain West, one MAC, and one Sun Belt. 03-hissyfit

I honestly think we will get picked even at 6-6. The same brand recognition argument that keeps us out of bigger bowls keeps us IN smaller bowls over MAC/Sunbelt/CUSA teams. I know we have limited tie-ins, but most of these bowl agreements have so many built in loopholes that I will be surprised if someone doesn't find a way to take us over one of those options.

RE: Bowl Preference?
I think since our 6 bowls are rather mediocre and will not be a strong magnet for travel. With this in mind geography likely will be strongly be considered.

Memphis is closest to Birmingham
Houston is closest to Ft. Worth
UCF is closest to St. Pete of Miami
Temple and ECU are closest to Annapolis
UC is closest to Detroit

Detroit would suck.

The AAC has no tie in to the bowl game in Detroit. It is ACC v B10.

It depends if the B10 can fill it. There are still several B10 teams that could go either direction for bowl eligibility. Michigan, for one. I think the sites putting an AAC team in Detroit are assuming B10 can't fill it.

If the B10 is unable to fill it I would prefer the Detroit Bowl against anb ACC team over the Miami Beach Bowl against BYU.

As I have indicated before the Miami Beach Bowl has perhaps the worst time slot of any bowl (Monday, 12/22 at 2pm). Nobody is going to watch that game because many will still be at work or out shopping. It is the second day bowl games will be broadcasted. By comparison the Detroit Bowl game will be on in the evening on the 26th. A lot of our fan can simply drive to that game.

I think Michigan loses the last 2, no bowl. Same for
Purdue,
IU
NW
Illinois

PSU in at 7-5 (6-6 worse case)
Rutgers finishes 6-6

If they have 9 bowl tie in I think they will have 9 bowl eligible teams.

Once again, we agree. The MBB is not a good time slot, and could be a potential disaster. If BYU gets their QB back, and UC plays Bad News Bearcat defense, we could get embarrassed. UC can't afford the risk of getting drilled by a G5 team.

^ Yep. Plus that would have all the fatalists who believe on-field results exclusively drive conference expansion assured that BYU had now played their way into the B12 over UC.

I do agree with you though. Let's not have UC drop back to a bowl with the MAC or C-USA and lose to those folks either. This UC team was picked early by some to win the "best" G5 conference and go to the Peach Bowl. Losing to an inferior opponent in a minor bowl isn't consistent with the narrative we're trying to create. I'll take a bowl win (or competitive game) against most any P5 over a G5 matchup.

I am risk averse, maybe just not accept a bowl bid? When CUSA Houston beat Penn St.
30-14 in the Ticket City Bowl, oops wrong scenario.
03-lmfao

Were we scared of MAC/CUSA/G5 in the International and Pizza Bowls?

03-lmfao That's back when a P5 was a urinary problem. G2 was Gatorade. But now G5 is college football. And a G6....
