UCONN: 300+
Tulane: Just over 90
Houston: 350
USF: 330

Just a sample of numbers from the other bands in our conference. As you can see, we are not the largest (And not even close to being the smallest).

But our band is not 'Tiny' By any means.

People need to hoot and holler about something though, Maiamire.
I think it's around 200 for our band. They got a new marching band director this year and he is trying to breathe new life into the squad.

RE: Our band is tiny
I should add that I have great respect and appreciation for the young people who devote their time and effort for the band, which is so important to our university. I hope that money can somehow be found in the future to increase the amount of their scholarships.

I was a member of the band in the 60s and I think we only had 10 drummers. It seems a lot bigger now then our band in 1966.

We've heard that before. If the band didn't pay anything, one should be in the band because they love it and the school too.

Be glad you have a scholarship, no matter what it is and press on.

wow, it's really decent of you to spend your life working for people and companies but doing it for free, or basically gas money. I mean, you did it for the love and the company, right? You were glad they let you work, with no worries of what it would mean for your own life and ability to manage everything.

wait, you DID do what you're telling others they should be doing, right?

1. It's larger than last year, but smaller than 4 years ago when my daughter was in the band.
2. The scholarship aspect has been a partial scholarship for at least the last 6 years, from talking to members of the band, maybe longer. So the numbers game is not just that.
3. I was never much to notice the band activities until my kids got into it. But as perspective:
A) they practice 3-4 days a week for about 3 hours.
B) on game day, it's about a 10 -12 hour gig for them. They come to the LB early to practice; they get to Tiger walk about 30 minutes before the team to entertain for the fans (they are quite entertaining); they perform again before pregame out in the lane for about 20 minutes, march in and then do the pregame show. Of course there is half time and playing in the stands.
C) I say all of this because it's not easy.
4. My son does not do it for the money, it's only $1,000, he does it because he's a tiger fan and he loves his school and he loves band.
5) also band is a class, you miss one gig without a valid excuse (like doctor note excuse) you fail.

I figured it was a big commitment. 04-cheers My thanks to your daughter and your son. I absolutely love our band.

Be glad you have a scholarship, no matter what it is and press on.

unfortunately not all students come from wealthy families who could pay those enormous tuition fees/activity-student fees each semester and do things just for the love of it.

Not someone else's fault, your fault. Man up and pay for that new music you want.

You remind me of a complete idiot back in the 80's who bitched about our high school marching band playing the same music every year. I told him that we played an entirely new program with new music every year. He was like, no way, I hear this same song every year. It goes "nah nah nah nahhhhhh nahhhhhhh nahhhhh nahhhh nah nah nahhhhhhhhhhh"

I said, are referring to our fight song?

Lesson of the story, dont be like that idiot.

I may just offer to purchase the band the rights to receive the sheet music to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, so I can see the band play the entire 17 minute song.

Hopefully no more than $5. That's all I've got. We can buy one sheet music and they can Xerox however many they need

Hard to believe we pay for that lame ass 'im so glad'. UT song.

I may just offer to purchase the band the rights to receive the sheet music to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, so I can see the band play the entire 17 minute song.

I'm in...How much could they want for it?

Hopefully no more than $5. That's all I've got. We can buy one sheet music and they can Xerox however many they need

Copies ain't cheap these days...I'll pick up that tab for the greater good, but they gotta let me sit in the student section during BB games. Any other songs come to mind?
