How will this be funded? The Nip $$$ has been taken care of by luxury suites and new area ($15,000 - 3 year commitment) plus at least 5,000 added seats. The revenue model works.

Now The Shoe already has Suites and seating is being reduced and the place is almost never full since Hugs left. So where is the incremental revenue to pay for the changes?

Probably a focus on premium seating, suites, club seats. Besides the suites some of the most expensive tickets are wood chairbacks.

Attendance will climb, simply because it's a new arena, and ticket price will increase, since the arena will be new and will hold less people. Like the person above me said, all chairs will lead to more expensive seats. No way in hell season tickets for the uppers when it's renovated will be anywhere near $99. Guessing $400-500.

Nothing wrong with that #, if you have comfortable chairbacks, cup holders, sports bar area with flat screens and good food.

UC AD: No approval yet on Fifth Third renovation
Bill Koch, bkoch@enquirer.com 5:14 p.m. EDT October 31, 2014

Media reports that the University of Cincinnati has filed a proposal with the state facilities commission regarded a possible renovation of Fifth Third Arena do not mean the project has been approved by the Board of Trustees, UC athletic director Mike Bohn said Friday.

"We are excited about the impressive concepts and progress surrounding Fifth Third Arena, but no approvals have been granted by the Board of Trustees about a potential renovation," Bohn said in a statement released by the school. "Our extensive process includes identifying resources from our passionate supporters and partners. We look forward to working with our colleagues on campus to provide a first-class, privately-funded facility that all Bearcats can be proud of. We will share additional project details as we know more."

WLWT's web site reported that under the proposal, seating capacity in the arena would be reduced and enhancements would be to fan amenities that included club areas, rest rooms and a new roof at a cost of $70 million.

The Enquirer reported in April that UC was considering a renovation that would reduce seating capacity from 13,176 to 10,000, widen concources, improve restroom and concession access, and better utilize dead space in an attempt to make the 25-year-old building a more intimate place for fans.

In early August, Bohn told the Enquirer he estimated the cost would be in the $40 million to $70 million range.

UC coach Mick Cronin said Friday it's premature to declare the project a done deal.

"It would be great if and when that happens," Cronin said. "But something like that is a long way from home. I've been around long enough to know that."

Bohn has not said how the project would be paid for.
