They will if GCU becomes a traditional private school once again.

Just like Ohio State needed a reason to play a total of zero in-state schools from 1935-1992?

ASU doesn't owe GCU anything. There's no reason to think that they're obligated to play a certain school just because it's located next door. A football game is a 3 hour advertisement for a school on national TV and in the local newspapers. If anything, schools currently have an incentive to prefer to play out-of-market teams so that they can get free advertising in new markets.

Football (or basketball, since GCU doesn't have fb) is one thing. But deliberately rejecting putting a school on the schedule in ALL sports? I don't think even Ohio State did that to other in-state schools during the '35-'92 time period you introduced.

ASU didn't mind playing them when they were D2 as an exhibition game but now they are D1, they changed their stance? Doesn't matter, GCU will do good getting other schools besides ASU to play against.

They would be a good candidate for the WCC as they fit the private christian university profile.

They have a h&h with New Mexico (this year and next) and I think SDSU in the near future too.
