We were posting about the same time. I have the same numbers you have for regular season completed sports so that is a good sign for our math.

RE: Bubas Cup standings
I'm sure the Sun Belt office, or at least the department that posts the Bubas Cup standings, was closed this week, so they haven't updated the standings or points to include volleyball, and, of course, football. They should have them posted either Monday night or Tuesday. Here they are in the meantime.

1. Appalachian State 42
2. South Alabama 35
3. Louisiana 34.5
4. Texas State 32
5. Arkansas State 29.5
6. Georgia Southern 28
7. Texas-Arlington 26
8. UALR 25
9. Georgia State 22
10. Troy 18.5
11. ULM 11.5

Idaho and New Mexico State picked up 2.5 points after tying for 9th in football.

Bubas Cup standings
We will win, through sheer numbers of sports! Bow to our ability to waste money on things like brand new facilities for Field Hockey!

I would not be so sure of that at this point. From here on out USA and App both compete is every sport. And each sport only earns the number of points that there are schools that compete in that sport. Using having MSOC helped but even if we had won MSOC it would have only added a bit more than 1/2 the points that VB or FB add. Put another way winning MSOC helps as much as finished 6th place in FB of VB. It still helps to have more sports or course but it is a different dynamic that what we as App fans dealt with in the SoCOn in how points were earned.

Also the spring sports have not generally been our better sports, excepting T&F, so we need a big margin that we can hang on to the end.

With all of that said, I would rather be 7 points up than not over USA.

Two of us are posting about the Bubas Cup. Here is a more detailed look at it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...dit#gid=18

It would be interesting to plug in either last years results in the remaining sports or the coaches predictions (Not that either would mean much I know. Look at GaSo and FB.) and see what might come of this and how close the results mirror the final Bubas standings. Do the tourney only sports make predictions on order of finish as the team sports tend to do before the season starts?

Not sure it would help. We lost WKU in T&F, leaving the next 2 best teams from last year as UTA & TXST but GS has a good track team. We also add a good GS baseball team in the mix so it would be hard to judge.

Pretty sure much/most of that came in form of a gift from a former player.

Correct on the donation for the field. And though we could have said we will take the money but not for a field hockey field, I bet the response would have been to build a FH field of don't take the money.

RE: Bubas Cup standings
I have the same numbers so we are both correct or screwed up the same way.

Keep an eye on the SB website. They made a minor mistake for one school in the fall that I caught involving how a tie was awarded points. They fixed it after I let them know. They were gracious about what I pointed out, and fixed it very quickly. Still, it never hurts to have extra eyes since they are the official and I doubt anyone is double checking in the SB office or schoolsm beyond us few fans that put way to much time into the cup.

RE: Bubas Cup standings
Three observations:
I think my numbers are the same as yours, which is good. I had a mistake at first which I caught.

If you would have said that App was going to be tied for 1st at the end of winter sports I would have laughed. Given predictions at the start of basketball we were predicted last in MBB and I think WBB. I figured we would fall to 3rd or 4th place.

Finally, GaSo is very weak on the women's side. Winning or coming down to the last day in the men's glamour sports of FB and BskBall and tied for 2nd in MSOC and still be in 9th place overall. This was also the case while they were in the SoCon. To their credit they do sponsor a few sports outside of the SB which helps with Title IX but not Bubas Cup points.

How do the standings for tennis work, as there is not regular season standings? For example, how do you pick the third and fourth place teams? Is it based on who won the championship?

Sports without a regular season (thought lots of SB teams play each other there is not official tennis standings) then it is all about the tourney and how that finishes.

The bracket seeds are based on tennis rankings (think RPI but different). The 1st place and 2nd place is easy enough to figure out. I am not sure if 3-6 place teams do a few more matches until all is ordered for Bubas points or if all the losers just are listed by the tennis rankings.

With only 6 teams on the men's side playing a few matches for consolation rounds is not a big deal. With 11 women's teams that is a bunch more matches to play to truly place schools in 11 spots.

That may have everyone losing in round won calling it a tie and sharing the Bubas points that way. For the guys two teams share place 5-6 and then two that lost in round two share pace 3-4 and then the 1-2 place is obvious.

The more I write the more I am thinking it may be the last paragraph is what happens, but I am new to the SB so I am learning a bit this year.

Right I got all that. One and two are easy to figure out. Is three the one that lost to the champion? Is five the one that lost to the team that lost to the champion?

uta in the middle of the standings despite fielding a few less sports.

I think we will have an answer once the tourney is over. There are 4 or 5 ways this could shake out.

I have noticed that myself. Then again if you supporting less sports on the same budget you should be doing better per sport as your per sport $ is higher in the sports you are supporting.

Either way something to be proud of as a UTA fan.

UTA a little down. They won their share of SLC cups without having football. (so did UTSA)
