RE: Bubas Cup standings
Was there yearly Bubas Cup talk before I came along and stirred things up, unintentionally for what it is worth, with posting about it weekly? I am not sure if Icitsh was posting this before this year or not. We have both been posting on a regular basis.

Curious what the emphasis was before this year.

RE: Bubas Cup standings
USA has won the Bubas Cup 11 times in 39 years.

Louisiana Lafayette has never won it in 24 years.

If I were a Cajun fan I wouldn't care about something I've never won either. But I wouldn't diminish the award to those that did win.

As a Cajun Fan, I'm simply saying the trophy doesn't matter much to me. Now it may because we have never won it, but I certainly wouldn't trade winning a bowl game, MBB and WBB in post season play, Baseball and softball playing in a super regional all in the same sports year for one Bubas Cup.

SkullyMaroo, in the 11 years USA won the Bubas Cup did your program accomplish the above feats in the same sports year?

I joined this forum in late 2013, so I've only had two seasons of posting about the Bubas Cup. The moderators would probably know if there has been any threads about it in previous seasons. Here's the link to the other thread I started:

I can't remember last week and you want me to think about a thread, on a forum, from 2 years ago?

The 13-14 athletic year CBS ranked UL as the #38 (34?) ranked athletic program in the nation.

This year (14-15) Massey has us as the 3rd best non BCS program in the nation behind 2 AAC schools.

You can get off on Bubba Gump. Enjoy.

Have a delicious day, Skulls!

Conference Championship in Football, CCG appearance in basketball, baseball tourny was disappointing, but we competed for most of the year. I'd take that over not having football, and being average in every other sport like Tennessee-Austin.

The Cup (I refuse to use the name) is a good indicator of the overall competitiveness of an athletics department, and that takes work. So it is to be commended.

But I'd wager 99% of the folks who follow sports couldn't tell you who won it last year, meaning it's impact on the "big picture" is minimal (now, whether it should be minimal is a different discussion).

Kudos to whomever won it.

Nobody even knows who won it for the SEC last year. That should tell you how little people care about it.

I think that is the larger picture. From a national standpoint it doesn't have the impact on the conference or program as bowls and NCAA appearances. But as a measure of overall competitiveness it has its place.

No one is saying we should be going to the White House to meet the President for this award. If you don't care about all sports, you probably don't care about this award. If you do follow all sports, maybe you do. If you truly don't care about the award (in which case you probably havn't even read this thread), no one blames you, but there is no need to belittle the award or to disrespect the person it was named after.

RE: Bubas Cup standings
The problem with the name is not the man it is named after... It's just the name itself.

Given we are a southern league, to have something that LOOKS like Bubba it just a killer to me.
