Fuente and the future
I was checking out the recruiting forum looking at our football commits. A poster posted a list of our ratings from 2006-2014.
Quote:I can understand the concern right now with taking players early that we can have anytime we want them instead of waiting for better players. I know that later on the ratings of some of these players will change and our ranking will change. But right now we have the worst recruiting class that we have had in 10 years. CJF is doing it on the field but he is not on the recruiting trail. Concerned that if a new job offer comes around due to his actually on the field coaching skills that he may leave us with an empty cupboard for the next coach.

2015 95 2.00*
2014 89 2.21
2013 90 2.31
2012 72 2.42
2011 66 2.59
2010 57 2.48
2009 67 2.48
2008 88 2.32
2007 97 2.22
2006 74 2.12

* final individual recruits rating not listed.
I don't know how much stock to put into this. Does this concern others posters as far as the future product on the field. I am indifferent as long as they produce on the field.

If you cant tell the talent level now is miles ahead of 3 or 7 years ago then you are not watching the games.

If you are sitting up at night worrying about our coach leaving before he even gets 2 games over 500 for the first time in his career then you are need to get used to insomnia.

My advice to you, start watching the games with your own eyes and enjoy the ride

That's a quote from somebody else not me. I said I am indifferent on the recruiting ratings but I see people bring this up approaching seasons end. I want to at least try to understand the thought process into wanting Fuente to break from what is working for him. I actually like our current class. Swalley looks like a bruising wrecking ball.

man, I'm probably just high, but I think fuente doesn't see the recruiting numbers nearly as much as he sees player development and the big picture

Just look in the recruiting forum on some of the under the radar recruits. You will find those poster. I use to respect one of them because he provided some good discussion but he has been riding Fuente not getting high 3* and 4* players

It isn't stupid, but it isn't a reason to get all worried about recruiting. Of course one would think that the on field performance and the quality of the staff would leave to recruits with more stars next to their names.

On the other hand, you have to trust the coach, there is a lot of time left before the start of next season, and you have to factor in how many recruits actually make it onto the field.

RE: Fuente and the future
We are not.... let me repeat NOT anywhere close to being able to go after the 4* recruits on an average basis!!

After the DeAngelo run in '03 and '04, we went after many 4* and a lot of 3*s as well. We even finished as many of those recruits 2nd or 3rd choice. HOWEVER, we missed out on the low 3* recruits that we could have and probably should have landed chasing after higher rated recruits. It should be clearly seen that this staff knows how to coach up talent. Give them time. We can't go to one bowl game in the last 7 years and think that we have somehow arrived. Winning the conference this year and a bowl win might land a couple of recruits, but that is about it. It will take a couple of years to show recruits that we have arrived.

Our biggest issue is that not enough quality Memphis HS players have any loyalty to the city's university. The Sam Crafts and Charles Harris' are few and far between. Until that changes there's never going to be consistency

I agree with this completely as far as TW goes. I would also agree that the next step is to get the best 2/3 star players possible. It sounds obvious, but there is a reason why more schools covet some players with the same stars next to their name.

RE: Fuente and the future
I think the staff has done an incredible job of bringing in and coaching talent. If a player with great talent doesn't fit the system or isn't willing to follow coaching, I would rather have a lesser rated player that does.

The fact that there are top 20 rated teams with a recuiting class never in the top 25, and there are teams with losing records that have consistent top 25 classes.... shows the evaluation process is slightly flawed.

I like where we are now and the prospects for our future!!!

And Stammers, I have told most of those people repeatedly what happened.... they refuse to listen!!! Wonder why that is?!??!
