Concerned Cubbie Fan
It is all but official that Maddon will be the new Cubs manager for next season. This deal has be concerned. Not about the quality of the hire, he is a proven product. Not about the classless way the Cubs went about it. Giving RR their word that he would be manager next season and then going out and getting involved with Maddon.

My concern is this Maddon was still under contract although in an option year with the Rays. He opts out of that deal and then announces he is interested in the Cubs job. Why would a man just out of the blue opt out of the final year of a contract and suddenly announce he was interested in a job that is not open? My concern is a man wouldn't leave a job and announce he wanted another job that is not open without having some kind of idea that the job would become open. There may be nothing to the deal but it has the smell of tampering in it. It concerns me what MLB would do if Epstein did in fact tamper with the TB manager while he was still under contract.
