Memphis Fan Coming to Birmingham - Need Help
I am coming to Birmingham and am looking for a good place to stay and a good fun area to visit, eat & drink.

After a little bit of internet research, I think that the Five Points area seems to be where I want to be. I would appreciate some feedback.

I was looking at the Hotel Highland. I do not need a ritzy place, just neat and clean. The fun will be in the bars and restaurants. Is this a good choice? Is there a good sports bar in the area?

I would appreciate any help.

if you look up a few threads under "important threads" you'll find a guide to birmingham (i hope its up to date--i haven't looked at it in a long time).
id offer you specific advice, but i also haven't lived there in nearly a decade

I've had some friends stay at the Hotel Highland and liked it. You'll have plenty of restaurants/bars close by if you stay there. There's a sports bar in walking distance called The Red Zone, but I wouldn't recommend it.

World of Beer, Dave's, and Black Market are all good spots for drinks in walking distance. Still in walking distance but a little further away is The J Clyde and Blue Monkey. J Clyde has an awesome beer selection.

I actually think World of Beer has a better selection. Of course, J Clyde has a better atmosphere and has the advantage of being the first so it has the reputation.

And if he has time I'd encourage him to go by Good People and Avondale to see the brewery and to have a couple in each taproom.

If you go to Avondale Brewery, which I encourage, grab some food from Saw's Soul Kitchen a couple of doors down. The brewery does not have a kitchen and does not mind at all if you bring in takeout. Saw's will knock your d*** in the dirt, outrageous good food.

When I saw the BLT sandwich made with a fried green tomato I knew I'd hit the jackpot.

Make sure to get Samosa's at Noni's, across from Hotel Highland, after drinking! They're awesome!

J Clyde > WOB in my opinion.

The Paramount and Collins Bar are great downtown. Collins is a mixology bar.

Thanks for all of the follow up posts. I've decided to stay at Hotel Highland. I looked several of the spots you all mentioned. I am sure that I will find some good places to have fun. I truly appreciate the help. I am going to try to get a guide up on our board to be helpful to visitors.

I still pull for the Blazers and wish you all the best.
