RE: OT: What the hell happened to Pitt?
What does it mean "What the hell happened to Pitt?" This is the Pitt we all know and love; the Pitt that finds a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in front of 1,000 or so "fans." Remember that 0-3 loss to Oregon State in the Sun Bowl? Or how about the man-handling to Utah in the Fiesta Bowl?
But Pitt fans...all 1,000 or so...will quickly remind you of their fabled National Championships of last-century. Which, not to take anything from Pitt, is something. But that belongs to the hallowed past. This is the Pitt program that we knew from the BE.
Oh, minus the rivals. So this is Pitt getting smacked by Georgia Tech instead of Cincinnati.

hand pick 22 players from Pitt and Syracuse and they'd be at the bottom of the ACC. It's not
about the quality of the product on the field, its the TV sets.

How about that 16-10 loss to OU in Athens?

Don't know that much about Pitt's history. Sad that they took that down. It actually makes me realize just how special Nippert is and appreciate it even more.
This article, posted on the 18th talks about Pitt and how they should follow Tulane's path. They moved back to campus.
Another article I saw was written by a Pitt fan and included a picture of Nippert as an example.

Dahm shame ... held 56,500-69,400 people ... would have been a nice facility if they renovated ...

Rather than dissing Pitt and its fans, wouldn't it make more sense to treat them with a bit of respect? They're in a place we'd like to be, and one of these days, we might want and need their support if the ACC opts to expand.
Burning bridges is one thing; burning them before you have a chance to cross them is just plain stupid.

My intent wasn't to "diss" Pitt. It actually bummed me to see their program in the state it is in. I'm really hoping they turn it around and get their attendance up again. I loved those Pitt/UC games from a few years ago. I remember the one where the Bearcat got arrested and the student section pelted their RB upon scoring a touchdown. It was a good rivalry.

Their fans are not going to get us into the ACC.

There is literally NO CHANCE that Pitt can ever "move back to campus." Oakland is far too crowded and there isn't any space even remotely able to handle a stadium. That's one reason they tore down old Pitt Stadium... There was no room for any expansion and the parking was impossible.
I go to Pittsburgh pretty frequently these days. And my best friend is the (Lutheran) Campus Pastor for Pitt and CMU. I have come to really appreciate the Pitt campus. But they are even more land-locked than we are.

I'm not sure their President and AD read this message board. Of course, I could be wrong.

Bwhahahaha....
First, it's not going to be the "Pitt fans" (or any other fans, FWIW) that are going to make a decision on whether to invite UC or not. So rest easy... Nothing said on these boards are going to build or burn any bridges.
Second, the Pitt fans already despise UC. If it were up to them (again, all 1000 or so), UC would not only be never be in the ACC, but UC would be playing in FCS. If you ask the random Pitt fan (and I am not making this up...), UC was a "trash" program that led to the downfall of the BE after VTech, Miami, and BC left. They will openly tell you that. In their estimation, the BE was dead when the three original programs left and from that point on they (the Pitt fans) wanted out. IF UC ends up in the ACC, expect a similar reaction. So, don't hold out any hope that the "Pitt fans" will rise up and demand UC's inclusion nor that our comments will somehow "poison the well."
Seriously. UC fans have a loathing of WVU, but while the 'Eer fans could be openly obnoxious, the Pitt fans were far more contemptuous. I'll take the Mountaineer fans any day of the week.

Remember last year when DeCourcey wanted UC to move football downtown, tear down Nippert and build a basketball arena on the site-just like Pitt did? What could go wrong?

RE: OT: What the hell happened to Pitt?
Having attended 4 "home" games in an NFL stadium this year I can't see why any school would choose to play in an NFL stadium. There has been zero atmosphere at any games this year. I understand many teams don't have options but I honestly don't believe I would be such a passionate fan if that was our regular field. I understand why Pitt and Miami don't draw.
