Bowl travel
Looking at the dates of our conference bowl possibilities, how well do you think your fan base will travel? If Marshall makes it to the Peach Bowl, their fans will travel very well, no doubt. Great opponent, great date, etc.

But consider factors like your teams number of wins, how long since you've been to a bowl, date and location of the bowl, and opponent.

Independence Bowl Dec. 27 Shreveport, La.

Heart of Dallas Bowl Dec. 26 Dallas, Tex.

Hawaii Bowl Dec. 24 Honolulu, Hawaii

Bahamas Bowl Dec. 24 Nassau, Bahamas

Boca Raton Bowl Dec. 23 Boca Raton, Fla.

New Mexico Bowl Dec. 20 Albuquerque, N.M.

If UTEP gets bowl eligible, I would expect one of the three western bowls. The best for opponent would be the HoD Bowl but that is also the worst for fan travel since it is the day after Christmas. The NM Bowl would be easy travel for our fans and they did travel well there in 2010 with a 6 win team. Hawaii Bowl might be the best reward for the players but not many fans could make that expensive trip that close to Christmas.

Rice would travel well to Shreveport, Dallas, or Albuquerque. Dallas is the biggest concentration of alumni outside of Houston.

Shreveport (or Birmingham) would be the only bowls I could personally make. I don't think we'll travel very well anywhere with the state the program has been in for 10 years.

We are golden in Dallas and Shreveport. Thats where the majority of our alumni are. New Mexico and Boca would be tossups. Hawaii and Bahamas are not realistic for the majority of our fan base.

I am not as confident about Albuquerque. December 20 is a tough date. We are conflicted out by family holiday obligations.

Bowls in general are all tough dates for me. I have small children and every minute during the Holidays is usually spoken for. One's 1st birthday is on DEC 27th and the other is Jan 4th. I'm gonna have to pull my get out of jail free card on my wife to get to HOD or Indy. Anything else is just unrealistic.

If Marshall didn't make an access bowl, which would they go to, Independence?

I personally think its a tossup between Indy and HOD. If Penn State or Michigan is in the HOD, how could you turn that down? The Indy will have a decent name represent the ACC so either could be winners.

They would go HOD as long as a B1G team qualifies.

Thats ok with us. It would give Tech a better oppurtunity at the Indy Bowl. Rice and Tech will be gunning for which ever Marshall decides not to participate in.

We may both get the chance to earn HOD by beating Marshall head to head.

Personally, I think the 2:30 kick on Saturday on ABC in Shreveport beats the day lights out of 11am on Friday on ESPN in Dallas, provided the ACC is the opponent in the Independence Bowl.

I would like to see Rice and Tech play in these bowls. A Rice vs. Michigan or Iowa and a Tech vs. Miami or VA Tech would be fantastic.

Ive looked at it and the Indy is the #7 ACC bowl and the ACC has 9 projected to be bowl eligible
