Three MAC wrestlers in pre-season classic
http://www.nwcaonline.com/nwcawebsite/Ev...assic.aspx
125: #3 Alan Waters, Sr. (Missouri) vs. #4 Joey Dance, So. (Virginia Tech)
157: #2 James Green, Sr. (Nebraska) vs. #3 Ian Miller, Jr. (Kent State)
197: #1 J’Den Cox, So. (Missouri) vs. #2 Scott Schiller, Sr. (Minnesota)
Unfortunately, two are from Missouri.
The entire card looks to be excellent, better than last year's IMO.

What does the MAC get out of having Missouri come in and dominate the conference? They are a major state school with lots of money competing against MAC programs that have to fight for every dime.

Perception. Prestige. And the potential for conference tournies that make money.
Plus the MAC covers prime recruiting territory. It's reasonable to believe that MAC schools can recruit better locally b/c they really do offer better competition than anyone after B1G.
I'd like to see MAC schools respond to Mizzou and UNI by getting better, not getting bitter.

RE: Three MAC wrestlers in pre-season classic
Mizzou just happens to be riding high.
They WON the Big XII tourney in 2012.
In 2013, they were independent during the year, but would have finished second in the MAC dual season, as CMU defeated them. Mizzou entered the league for the MACC and won it.
In 2014, Mizzou finished second in the dual season, losing to Northern Iowa and defeating CMU by only one point. The Tigers then upset UNI during the MACC, winning their third straight league tourney championship (two MAC, one Big XII).
Having Mizzou, Northern Iowa, and Old Dominion has elevated MAC wrestling from being the 3rd or 4th best league in the nation to arguably the 2nd best. And that's much more preferable to adding affiliate schools (like in most of the other sports) that end up not improving the conference's stature.

OK. Good answer.

The MAC actually has 4 representatives at this event. Add returning freshman All-American Jack Dechow from Old Dominion at 184 lbs. He'll be taking on Gabe Dean of Cornell. I'll be in attendance Saturday night at The Palestra. Can't wait!

I saw that, but I still can't figure out why ODU is in the MAC.
Dean is a stud. While I think his win over Ruth last year was contrived, he's still a stud.

It's not your job to figure out why ODU is in the same wrestling conference as other MAC schools. We add value, as does Mizzou & UNI. Deal with it!
BTW, the MAC was 1-3 tonight in all star matches. Alan Waters of Mizzou was the only winner. Great evening of wrestling!

You add no value to the MAC. And it's my prerogative to point it out and ignore them. Deal with it.
Congrats to Waters. That's a good win to start the season. 125# is going to be a very tough class to win.

Wait. You can't figure out the politics of ODU being in the MAC so you purposefully ignore them?

That's not hard to understand...yet it's still beyond your comprehension. Huh.

Do you ignore Buffalo in all sports? West Virginia in soccer? Binghamton in tennis? Longwood in field hockey? You may not like us, but we're here whether you like it or not. So I'll sit back and smile, while you continue to gripe. HAHAHAHA....
