Marshall not in college playoff rankings
They didn't make the top 25, someone from the committee quoted as saying their schedule and wins are just not that strong, can't say I'm surprised.

RE: Marshall not in college playoff rankings
Both the Mens and Womens NCAA Basketball Committee members who spoke at the event last night spoke about the importance of non P5 schools "scheduling up" to get considered for Tournament At Large bids. The first thing I thought about was how Marshall's schedule was going to kill them. Their conference schedule is what it is, but the non con is on them and it is pretty weak. In football, where you only get 4 non con games, you've got to schedule very wisely to get wins, but to get some quality in there, too. Being #128 in SOS isn't going to cut it.

It's a shame cause Marshall is a much better team than their schedule. They could beat most of P5 schools, they needed go after a couple. I know we don't help their cause.

That's their own fault. We scheduled 2 P5 schools this year and 3 last year. This is a case of can't have your cake and eat it, too. They scheduled weak to try and go undefeated. Undefeated they probably will be, but no one is going to pay attention, because they played the weakest schedule in all of FBS.

From what I read they had Cincinnati scheduled and they pulled the rug out from under them. Had to replace it with Maine or new Hampshire, on my phone so didn't look it up.

Cincinnati still wouldn't be P5. Either way it was Louisville that pulled out of their game not Cincinnati. I think they play them next year and got a basketball game game thrown in their also. Either way none of that helps them this year and there team is less likely to go undefeated next year with a new quarterback.

Marshall routinely played two power conference schools until last season. Their schedule would either be two power, two MAC schools or two power, a MAC and an FCS. The tempting thing is to say they shouldn't play more than one MAC team ever, but they're regional games, the kind of games we'd want ODU to play somewhat regularly if they had nearby FBS competition.

Plus, the P5 are making it harder and harder to schedule home and homes with them. And unlike basketball, there are very few neutral site games. I dont think you can be too hard on Marshall about the schedule because as said, they had Louisville lined up. Getting two reasonable (i.e.: not AT Alabama) p5 games in one season is very, very tough. I wish Marshall had our schedule. They would have still gone undefeated and had wins over NCSU and Vandy.
