RE: ECU #23 in CFP poll
I really could care less on who represents in the access bowl as long as they have a chance to win. I would love to see the G5 win the access bowl every year. That's the only way smaller schools are going to get any respect. UCF won last year and whoever plays in it this year needs to win.

SMU would've made the playoffs if they went undefeated this year imo.

Committee is looking at body of work. Marshall has no one close to a ranked program on their schedule. No brands like a BYU... They're in a conference of Sunbelt and call-up schools.. Marshall is irrelevant, if UCF goes undefeated in conference and only loses (on a last second FG) to Penn State and Mizzou; after winning the Fiesta last year and stringing 10 win seasons together. ALL OF THAT IS BODY OF WORK.

Marshall almost lost to FAU last week.

good in the fact that marshall is likely the 3rd Ranked G5 probably behind CSU.. schedule means something to them

bad news making the playoffs will almost be impossible..to think they are punishing ND because of its schedule a schedule better than any we will ever have ... we'd likely need 2 or 3 years of undefeated and pure dominance on monster OOC SOS to have a tiny chance

Not really. Just need the right pieces to fall like in '11. Get ranked, keep blowing teams out, and watch teams in front on you get knocked down week after week. We would've definitely finished top 4 in '11 if we finished the job that year against #21 USM. I think at least one team in front of us even lost that same week.

But like I said..... the stars have to simply align for a team to do that.

Well ECU fans, I would not expect UCF to be ranked at 9-2 based off of these rankings, so don't get your hopes up for a ranked finale.

It is actually a shame Marshall decided to go that easy of a schedule. They should have 2 P5 teams minimum on the schedule.

I think you'll be ranked in the AP and Coaches if you are 9-2

I don't think so. If we had a team that actually deserved to go, I think they could have a shot. If ECU beat South Carolina (probably by at least 2 scores since the cocks have not inspired since) and have played better games against the conference opponents, they could actually be considered... Problem is, they didn't beat S. Car and they're not blowing out the 'bad' teams on their schedule. They're simply not good enough.

I'll get upset when I legitimately believe the AAC has a team that could compete for a national championship and the CFP poll proves incapable of putting said deserving non P5 team in the top 4. Until then, we have nothing to really whine about lol

Marshall remaining schedule:

@USM (trap game)
Rice
@UAB (trap game)
W. Kentucky

ECU remaining schedule:

@Temple
@Cincinnati
Tulane
@Tulsa
UCF

If both teams win out, regardless of how either team "looks", there's virtually no way Marshall gets past ECU. The SOS for Marshall will continue to plummet as the season goes on while ECU's will get stronger. And I listed those trap games as traps because Marshall was on upset alert for an entire half at home vs FAU, and playing against those old CUSA East teams that are familiar with you can be tricky. I think ECU pretty much respects all of the teams they have remaining on the schedule, and would be foolish to overlook any other them... maybe except Tulsa.

We were certainly good enough to beat USC and were good enough to blowout all the teams on our schedule. We just haven't done it. Teams rarely do run through their schedule like butter.

2011 was in the BCS and our rankings were actually lower in the human polls, and being carried by the computers...there are no computers and the committe poll is actually ranking G5 lower than the other human poll, which was low on g5 to begin with

honestly speaing we'd have never made top 10 even if undefeated based around the way this poll played out

we'd honestly need a smu type schedule, 3 top P5 that actually turned out elite to finish the season..have atleast 2 conference games vs top 25 teams, and then hope everyone else has 2 or 3 losses

All things considered, this is a good spot for ECU. Keep winning the rest will take care of itself. Congrats pirates!

i dont think ECU would have had a shot even if they beat SC...
theyd probably be ranked around 15 or 16 with too much ground to catch up ..vt/unc/sc are great teams in comparison to marshall's joke schedule but arent that impressive in comparison the the top p5...

and ecu is coming from nowhere, no one actually knows how good they are (in comparison to the elite) and will not be given the benefit of the doubt

a team that was undefeated the year before returning a ton of star players on SMU's schedule maybe.. but ecu never had a shot with their schedule not living up to hype and reputation

Then Colorado State would get it, because they are also 6-1 with two P5 wins.

For the hundredth time, Csu can only get it if Boise loses.

It's not a trap game if you aren't favored to win by more than a touchdown.

If ECU has a line of -7.5 or more against UCF, I'll be surprised.

They can't. No AD will touch them with all those NQs.

I'd be a lot happier if UCF was ranked 24th. I want the AAC in the Access Bowl.
