Nothing would kill their season more than losing to a MAC team...and we have them at home. If we end up with an 8+ win season with a bunch of youngster they may just pay us off.

I don't see it happening.

If they did I would spend every last Internet hour of my life tearing that school apart.

Would be pretty tough to avoid a PR nightmare if the media wanted to go after it. Their friends in AA would love to go after MSU for such a thing.

But also, it would be fairly difficult to find an opponent for Labor Day weekend at this point. Options have to be limited.

I honestly think MSU will uphold their end of the bargain.

RE: Over/under on if MSU reneges on our home game next year
It's a win win win for them

It's a game they should win

They will probably have more fans than we will.....home game

It shows them as a good but fair program, willing to go on the road when others (scUM) try to load up a cupcake home schedule to get bowl eligible.

I am on MSU campus about every day and do a bit of work with the Athletic department. I can assure you that at this point there's been no discussion about pulling out. In fact, they see it as a goodwill tour.

They aren't backing out of this game. Too late now.

Totally true. Way too far back, plus it's tied into the 2-for-1 deal of home/away they've already settled with EMU -- and it's an in-state college... PLUS, it's really soon. It'd be one thing to postpone it, but it's far too soon to do it. If it was scheduled for 2017 and they wanted to push it to 2018, that'd be one thing.

This is set for Friday Night @Waldo. If we're 10 wins (1% chance) to 7 wins (40% chance) -- whatever is, it's goin' on!

Is this game already set for the Friday of Labor Day weekend?
Someone told me that WMU will have to provide 7,000 tickets to MSU. Which means that WMU must control the rest of the tickets somehow so it is not like a neutral site game.

They aren't backing out simply because we are having success. The only reason they would back out is if they go 12-1 this year, win the Big 10 and get left out of the final 4. Then they might decide to try to find a game that could help their case for the committee next season over us.

Great Analysis.

How is that great analysis? How would they magically find a game? I don't see how any of that is a realistic possibility. They have a return game from Oregon already. It's not like they can just drop us and go play auburn. The schedules are full. The game is on no matter what MSUs playoff chase this season produces

MSU's 2015 schedule:

Home: Oregon, Air Force, CMU, Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, PSU
Away: WMU, Rutgers, Michigan, Nebraska, OSU

I don't think they have much to worry about regarding SOS with Oregon coming to East Lansing and a road schedule that includes (a down, but still archrival) Michigan, Nebraska, and OSU.

I could see that as a reason, but it's "too late" for that to happen, really. They'd have to shell out a lot of money to us for it. Plus, if they wanted to strengthen the schedule, they'd ditch the CMU game (at home) -- a weaker team (no Rawls/Davis either).

Their schedule is tougher next year, by a bit though too -- they'll have less worry to tweak.
(1) They NIX a D1AA team out of their schedule and replace with CMU (+.5)
(2) They REPLACE EMU from schedule and replace with Air Force (+1)
(3) They REPLACE Wyoming from schedule and replace with @WMU (+.5)
(4) They Play Oregon HOME, not away (-1)
(5) They Play Nebraska AWAY, not home (+1)
(6) They Play Purdue HOME, not away (-1)
(7) They Play Indiana HOME, not away (-.5)
(8) They Play UofM AWAY, not home (+1)
(9) They Play OSU AWAY, not home (+1.5)
(10) They Play Mary HOME, not away (-1)
(11) They Play Rutgers AWAY, not home (+1)
(12) They Play PSU HOME, not away (-1)

+2 -- Enough to have an edge VS themselves the previous year.

Like BC said, MSU sees it as a goodwill tour.

AFTER THE Akron, App. St. UT, debacles, UM sees every OOC as a potential embarrassment. The home turf and homer officiating might be the only edge they have these days.

The top teams in the MAC should stay away from UM so they don't take a hit on their strength of schedule.

Would've preferred the MSU game on a Saturday afternoon rather than a Friday night, but it's a small quibble.

I agree. If you actually read what I wrote, I said that I also don't see them dropping the game. For reasons that you and others have stated. A: schedules are complete (for everyone) dropping and adding games at this point would be a logistic nightmare. B: while it might not be as big of a deal to them as we would want it to be, the PR headache of dropping the game wouldn't be worth it either. C: while I mentioned that the ONLY reason they might even entertain the idea is if they feel they need to find a better resume building game. Ultimately, nothing builds a resume better than winning. And lets face it, they aren't too worried about taking an L against us.

Anyone remember the spring before the 2004 season? Somehow WMU dropped UConn and substituted Tenn Martin.

Can be done. Seriously doubt MSU will walk on us, but if they wanted to they would find a way.

Can be done but not for "strength of schedule" reasons as a response to not getting in the playoff. They could maybe get an FCS home game at this late date but there aren't power 5 Ads looking to start a series next season. Its too late for that kind of thing.
