RE: MAC Full Cost of Attendance
OHHHH, I thought this was a thread about how much EMU spends to post their gaudy attendance numbers!

Saying something is an option is not say "UMass can't afford it".
Steve, Steve, Steve.......
You will learn that whenever your AD mentions looking at something or it is a possibility, that some bozo on this board is going to take it as gospel that you are going to do it.
A former BGSU AD mentioned that the school had looked at dropping to FCS and some bozo from OU mentioned it on thread after thread after thread for the next three years or so. It was discussed, the decision was it had no merit and we should move on, we did but the OU bozo could not let it go that we did have the discussion.

Was that a bozo who still haunts the conference realignment board at this site? Perhaps we could take advantage of his not dropping by here very much anymore to not keep playing games like that.
The UMass AD just ended up going on the record about a particular contingency that a much larger number of AD's will have looked at ... but even if UMass ends up shaving a scholarship or two's worth in scholarship costs, they could well end up doing it in the way that some other "full scholarship count" programs already do. Since FBS scholarships are head count scholarships, there are already some programs that are doing a bit of shaving at the margin by giving a few half-scholarships rather than full rides as "senior walk-on" scholarships.

Would you rather be a scholarship athlete at La Tech with 3 years of starting experience, a varsity jacket, and $3,000 grand in your pocket per year or a walk-on pine rider at LSU until your senior year, when you make the traveling team out of pity from the coach?
I think a lot, no A LOT, of kids do not properly measure this when being recruited.
That's great for the kids, but really expensive for the University. As you know, $3,000 grand is $3 million. Multiplied by 85 scholarships... That's $255 million. I just don't see how a MAC school can keep up.

You must use a different calculation than most. Times 100 old school is you move the decimal place over 2 positions so it's 300,000 and not 3 million.

That is true, but since a grand is $1,000, $3,000 grand is $3,000x$1,000, or 3 million dollars squared.
Which for a college student is a nice head start on getting all the moneys.
