NIU posted an 89 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the latest report, which ranks as the best in the Mid-American Conference and is seven percentage points better than the national Division I average. This year's report also marks the seventh-straight year that the Huskies' GSR topped 80 percent, and tops last year's mark of 85 percent.

The NIU football team's GSR of 91 percent is the eighth-best mark in the country among FBS schools and is second in the state of Illinois. The Huskies led all MAC teams in GSR by a large margin, as Miami (Ohio) owns the second-highest rate in the conference at 77 percent.

The most important thing to be proud of, considering the goal of going to college is education first.

RE: GSR
As faculty member at NIU, I am proud of the administration's focus on academics. I am also proud of my former student athletes that have graduated and become productive members of society. Go Huskies!

Imagine what North Carolina is going through right now. That grade scandal should be the death of their athletic program but it will not be.

This is TRULY impressive. Our fans and student-athletes should be proud. This puts to shame the academic success of the average NIU student.

Is there anyway to give the general population of students the same amount of accountability that the student athletes have? I mean everyone has access to tutoring and study halls and the library, etc. But, please educate me if I am wrong, aren't student athletes being constantly reminded and supported to use the resources they have available?
