NCAA regulations loophole?
Scholarship players in the NCAA must sign a waiver giving away their rights to their likeness, otherwise they don't get a scholarship. A top player could seemingly get around this by refusing the scholarship and paying for school himself, then playing technically as a walk-on.

Seemingly a non-scholarship player wouldn't be under any of the NCAA guidelines preventing them from profiting from their fame by signing autographs or paid appearances; all it would take is a team that would take such a player. Most blue chippers or those that have proven to be star players could easily pay their tuition if they were allowed to market themselves.

Granted, such a scenario is highly unlikely given that there's probably other regulations that could be interpreted to prevent this sort of thing, plus the program and player would be under a microscope if this happened. Any thoughts?

RE: NCAA regulations loophole?
What makes you think that non-scholarship players are exempt from NCAA rules about getting paid?

RE: NCAA regulations loophole?
Wasn't there a UNLV player who walked on in order to keep a business he owned?
