Hey ODU fans.....? about advertising
I live in Chesapeake and as I was driving up 64 east heading towards Greenbrier when I noticed a billboard advertising VCU. I was wondering if ODU advertises their school in the Richmond area? It just seems weird to see a VCU advertisement down here. I know that nobody has a monopoly on where you can advertise but it just seems a little low class for it to be in the tidewater area. I have never seen an UVA, Wiliam & Mary, VTech, or Uni. of Richmond billboard down here. Just a little curious.

ODU has ads in Tysons Corner which is by DC. So I'd assume we've got something in Richmond.

There is a VCU billboard on Colonial and like 23rd, like less than 2 miles from campus as well. That one needs to be defiled.

Short answer: NOPE. There was a really horrible billboard here promoting the school as a whole two years ago, but it looked like it was made from Microsoft Paint.
If I can see VCU, JMU women's basketball, U of R, and UVA billboards in this city, then ODU should have no problem finding advertising space in RVA. I think I even saw Randolph Macon once.

It says VCU. How much more "defiled" could it be?

It could have Pav on it. I think we should consider ourselves lucky.

The only problem with putting an ODU billboard in Richmond is that some decent person would actually have to travel there to put it up.

RE: Hey ODU fans.....? about advertising
I live in Richmond and haven't seen any ODU billboards but I have been pleasantly surprised to see a lot of "ODU Football" shirts this year. I live in the west end and it's not uncommon to see a kid wearing ODU gear these days. The football program has definitely raised our awareness in the Richmond area. My guess is these kids are going to ODU's football camp. Very cool to see.

The satellite campus was actually located in Sterling, Loudoun County, near Loudoun Co. campus of NOVA Community College. It was more like 25 minutes west of Tysons, Fairfax County, on a good traffic day. Unfortunately the center closed a number of years ago, probably due to budget cuts and lower enrollment figures.

I think it was taken over by the NVCC. I know the loudoun campus has been adding buildings.

RE: Hey ODU fans.....? about advertising
I gave up hoping ODU would market itself well years ago. I saw a VCU billboard on 64 in Hampton the other day too. I dont know why ODU doesnt plaster the area from Williamsburg to VB to Suffolk out to Emporia with ODU marketing, billboards and the like. I know we have W&M nearby, but not too many kids without a 4.0 can get in there. There are a number of smaller schools, Weslyan, CNU, HU, NSU, but as far as large state research institutions, ODU has a big advantage in this area and does nothing to build upon that. Its such a shame and a missed opportunity. The worst part is with better marketing comes better applicants, which improves incoming test scores and graduation rates, which moves us up into tier one national rankings and the whole cycle snowballs. I truly wonder if the administration even wants to improve sometimes.

I can attest to ODU's assertive marketing presence in the Tysons Corner area. Can't say I've seen too many TV commercials, but they've clearly paid their way to kiosk advertising at what is arguably the busiest mall in Northern Virginia.

Totally agree. ODU has done a poor job marketing and branding, and it's an absolute shame for a school that offers so much.

That same billboard that has the VCU ad on it now, used to have an ODU one. There, also, used to be another one on 64 W up by Patrick Henry Mall.

What the hell is wrong with you guys? Don't you know why we now have football? It is marketing. It is for the recruitment of students. There is no other reason. You guys are looking at a damn billboard, while millions of people are looking at the ticker at the bottom of sports channels.
We have plenty of students from in-state. It's the out-of-state student that pays the higher tuition that we are seeking. And statistics have shown in the past that the average out-of-state student has better qualifications. The ODU administration has been thinking big, and it should be applauded. You guys are thinking small and can't see the big things that the administration has done. Billboards? Really?
