If Bond really is this freshman ready, he can still get 15-20 minutes backing both guard spots - with his height and the surprising Pg skillset.

like i said, for all i know he can't shoot at all and he can't play defense. but, i'm 100% positive that the pieces are there for him to be a very strong MAC player. your estimate of 15-20 minutes/game seems reasonable. 7-10 at PG and 5-10 at SG. although, the SG minutes are dependent on Price playing the 3 or Lee sitting (i have no clue how long he will be out)

Dear EMUAARON,
Nice report. Thanks for the hard work on the basketball squad. It sounds encouraging for the coming season.

From all I can gather in a 1:22 video, he looks like can shoot it somewhat. Odd release, but not as herky-jerky as Talley's. He looks confident with it too...that's half the battle, in my opinion.

As for defense, we shall soon find out. We all know one thing: he'll get a quick hook from Murphy if he doesn't play hard on that end.

I know someone who had the chance to spend some time with Tim Bond last week at a boosters' event (including a sit down dinner) at the Convo. This person spoke very highly of Bond. Really liked him as a person.

How did Alvano from Cali do in the scrimmage? He had a great sr year for Corona HS. Would be interesting to see how he fits in, he supposedly can shoot. Is he a PG?

Alvano did very well in the three point competition. He came in second. Had it not been for an insane streak from Okologi on racks three, four, and five he would have won. I was really surprised by how well Okologi shot the ball.

I understand Alvano is definitely going to get significant minutes at PG. Bond could backup both at PG and SG.

If Price's shot isn't falling Bond could get minutes at SG leaving Alvano a lot of minutes at PG.

I get the feel that Price is a streaky shooter and he might hit some rough patches and could lose PT.

BTW, this was great marketing and promo event for both the men's and women's teams. (Aaron came away impressed by the women).

BTW, I went looking through some of the photos. Ajayi looks thinner and more athletic. Anyone else agree?

Next up, all of our newcomers will need to avoid freaking out to see a thousand or two school aged kids at their first game at EMU.

RE: "Unofficial" basketball scrimmage thread
One thing about this event which might have had 300 - 400 attendees:

1). Mostly students (good to get the students who spend their evenings in Ypsilanti engaged) and

2). Timely. Timely means that folks are thinking college basketball in mid - late October as compared to September, August, July, etc. The typical student/fan of EMU hoops just isn't thinking college basketball in August (hope they are at least thinking college football) or July or June, etc. Most sports fans have 'seasonal clocks' - their sports interests rise and fall during the year based on the season (like I'm DONE with MLB for five months, except for some free agency stuff coming up. I can't do MLB 52 weeks a year; ditto NFL, etc.).
