Pac-12 officially passes reforms
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...holarships

4 years scholarships ...etc.

All athletes in all sports are applied.

Interesting note of stipends ranging 2-5k depending on school. Somehow thought it would larger.

These should all be FBS-wide reforms. Good move from Larry Scott in getting ahead of the curve.

In practice I don't expect there to be any range. I believe the bar will be set at $5k everywhere. Geographical differences would not account for a wide range of actual costs. The only differences would come from different schools including different types of expenses in what they consider "costs of attendance". Competitive factors won't let one school consider travel home to be a covered cost and another to exclude it. This is simply going to be a $5k pay raise across the board.

Texas estimated three million a year for 5k per student.

The MAC is also offering I'm curious if 5k will be what G5 conferences offer.

It better be a set amount across the P5...I mean beer/condom costs across the US are pretty uniform.

Well, it's already catching on. Boise State and the MAC both pledged support for the new reforms.

All FBS conference have pledged support for the new reforms. Now which schools decided to actually implement it is up in the air.

Agree. Some schools may choose to not implement it.

Additionally, those that do decide to comply, there is the question of how much money does each conference or each school in a conference commit to pay each athlete and to how many athletes do they pay across the board.

I do not think many schools and especially some G5 schools can match what the top dogs pay

RE: Pac-12 officially passes reforms
I wouldn't be shocked if 100 (or more) of the 128 FBS schools agree to the new terms. The penalty for not doing so will be steep.

Some schools won't make it - but I don't think that we're going to see FBS drop below 100-105 schools. Severe FBS cuts won't happen unless the new standards start to cross the $10k per year per player model that UT-Austin mentioned.

Isn't the bigger issue the media and outside sources using their likeness to profit while the individual cannot?

I think there has to be a way to allow a Golston, a Gurley or a Winston to get paid considering how ofter their names and likeness is used to promote games...paying every athlete the same is just kicking the can down the road. A women's lacrosse player and even a third string tight end should not be compensated the same way Todd Gurley should be...this will be an issue in the future unless they find a way to accomodate the stars now.

This is not the NFL Jr., nor should it be.

There is a lot of unfairness that must be corrected. But it is still college sports and should not lose that character.

So Todd Gurley should be compensated the same as Georgia's backup Softball catcher? I'm not in favor of paying players at all, but if we're opening Pandora's Box, this issue can't be ignored.

Yeah, but []_[] is more into coke and abortions, whereas BYU is more into Pepsi and hand holding. Therefore, one could argue that the true cost of attendance at those two schools varies dramatically.
