Briscoe is going to have to improve immensely for UAB to have a shot at bowl eligibility.

Quote:UAB knew its back was pushed even further against the wall with junior quarterback Cody Clements out with an injury that could sideline him for two to six weeks.

two to 6 more weeks?!? I thought Irvine said Clements would be ready to go at FAU.

If that's true, then I don't see us getting to 6 wins with Briscoe starting at QB.

Hope that he is just throwing it out there to keep the opponent off balance.
FAU would be a lot tougher without Clements back there.

It'll be tough to beat anyone without Clements. Hope he's ready to go this week.

UAB - FAU is the only FBS game without a Vegas line right now. Odd, even with our uncertain QB status.

What Coach Clark said was when the injury happened last week (vs MTSU) it was thought to be a 2 to 6 week injury. He said Clements has progressed quickly and will be evaluated throughout the week. So there is a chance he could play on Saturday.

That's very disappointing news. I was worried he would hurt himself extensively with the way he seems to prefer to take a hit instead of sliding away from a tackle. Now our season will take the hit with him.

We will need a backup QB to really step up if we're going to be missing Clements for that long.

If Clark is the coach I think he is, he will find and run an offense that Briscoe can manage. FAU is not Arkansas and Briscoe has shown he is capable of running some of our offense, even against a couple of SEC teams. That is why the OC and FBHC "make the big bucks". Briscoe doesn't have to be Clements any more than he has to be Hackney. The FBHC simply (easy for me to say) has to hone the offense to Briscoe's strong points and go with it. Briscoe could come out of the next games as the team's hero if he can master what the HC sets up for him.

Time for some 4 wide and double TE sets.

Where are all the people begging gor Briscoe to go in because of his strong arm? The long ball doesn't mean a thing if he over throws it or puts too much touch on short balls. I will say it's not far to judge him off of the Arkansas game. Lets see how he does this weekend.

If it were only the Ark game I wouldn't be worried. But the previous games, with the exception of Miss State, were also much less than impressive...

The thing w/ Briscoe vs Ark was that after the first 2 quick outs that he completed, all they tried were deep passes w/ low chances of completing. Maybe if they called more quick passes like they've done under Clements, he'd get some confidence & complete more. I'm all for Clements being back but they've got to call some of the same plays for Briscoe as well even if he's a better long ball thrower than Clements.

But for whatever reason Briscoe can't throw short routes. Maybe he needs more practice at it or something but he definitely couldn't throw short routes against FIU.

He can't throw short routes
No building much confidence in him. Lets see how he does this weekend and then go from there. We'll be fine.

He also stares down his recievers on the short routes allowing the defenders to have better position and enables them to make a quicker jump on the ball, see FIU. He needs more experience and he still has a lot of learning to do.

From day one Clements has been steady. Day one Briscoe has been all over the place. IMO, he's been trying to prove to everyone he's a damn starter instead of trying to win a game. He's been forcing things when he gets the chance instead of being comfortable, and just taking what's given. He might not be as good at reading a defense or going through reads as Clements. I don't know. This may be the week that we need to go 4 deep at RB, 8 deep on the line, and run the patented McGee all run offense. 05-stirthepot

Briscoe has exactly 1 college start under his belt. On the road. To an $EC school.

I think I'll hold out for a larger sample set before deciding we can't win with him.

I know they are trying to get a sixth year for Arsenio Favor next season, but if he got his bachelors from ASU this summer why isnt he in the mix at all.He is experienced and battle tested in C-USA. Is he injured whats up? Season is doomed if he or Cody can't go.

I've had several people ask me about Favor. He got to campus very late.....like 1 week before the season started. I would like to know how he is doing too. I have heard Chipoletti is doing great!
