I'd prefer everyone stay in this conference and we ALL rise up together to be the top G5. The belt needs some long term stability. I like the footprint, for the most part-minus Idaho.

The fact that #statenotsouthern AND #southernnotstate were trending, along with #moderndayhate shows that this was more than just another game. The fact that we drew our second largest attendance ever, and once again higher than any attendance GS has ever had shows that this is more than just another game. It's a first time thing. After hearing State's noise for the past few years, we wanted to make a statement...and it was a big success. We will continue to bring a good number of fans, but there won't be a repeat of that atmosphere at the Dome, until you guys can win and actually compete for the conference.

Ditto. And I'm happy to say as a Georgia Southern fan, I want Ga State to have some limited success. Right now it's hard to hate them, the gameday operations sure, but not the diehard fans that show up for the product on the field. I've got pretty much the same hopes on all belt teams, I want them to beat every team OOC. I'd love to see the footprint tighten up and become (if we're not already) the premier G5.

But I'm loving our time in the Sunbelt, win or lose. Just glad we're competitive as most of us were unsure if we drop off or not.

Ok dude, games over, you can stop the smack and hyperbole. It's done. Did we move to the FBS prematurely? If nothing else, i'd say this game shows that's not true. It shows that, given the right circumstances, even after having only won 4 games in the last 3 seasons, we can still have a good crowd show up. Imagine if we were heading into this game after a few wins. This was an FBS game with an FBS crowd and an FBS atmosphere. You may hate it (and i can tell you do, which is why i think it's funny that you guys are saying this isn't a rivalry, because you're still riled up even after winning the game) but we have a legitimate case, and i'm sure that scares you to death. Yeah, we suck at football (for now) but it wont forever. And in the mean time, we have a national contender for basketball, which i think will draw enough attention to us to keep us in high esteem.

It was a good crowd with an FBS atmosphere because you guys were playing us. If that were any other SBC team, they would have brought 1500 tops. We completed owned that place. There are some better ones out there, but these are 2 I shot at the beginning if the 3rd quarter right as Breida busted that long one.

You would have had more than 1500 App fans go to the dome. ATL has a large number of alums along with Charlotte just up 85. We will see next year how many show, I flat out know it will be double 1500 or more.

I never said they couldnt be. As far as moving into a better conf. most want to get better and get into the bigger national picture. Thats what we wanted as players and thats what any coach would want. Thats what Coach Russell wanted. No we cant get in to another right now but things change every year and you will never no what can happen. But if you arent winning when the time comes it will pass you by. If your fine staying in the belt forever then you are in the minority on that one. By the way I did say 10 years.

Conferences GS has zero chance of joining ever: ACC, Big Ten, Pac 12 SEC

That leaves:

The MWC- Geography makes no sense, but we've seen strange geographic arrangements in the past, with a Boise like run over the next decade and MWC expanding into Texas to make you less of a dramatic outlier, it is not beyond the realm of possibility, but highly unlikely.

MAC- Geography makes more sense than the MWC, but not by much, UCF was once a MAC member, but all of this is irrelevant as the MAC isn't much of an upgrade.

CUSA- Geographic fit, but don't exactly fit the mold, but with continued strong football it's not inconceivable, but there are other Sun Belt members who are currently well ahead of you as CUSA candidates.

AAC- See above, but with much further to go and far more candidates ahead of you, most AAC fans would probably call your academics and MBB dealbreakers.

The Big 12: If GS has any shot at joining a P5 conference ever it's the Big 12. If GS were joining the Big 12 for starters it probably isn't a power conference at that point and it's definitely more than 10 years from now. Perhaps Texas, OU, OSU and Baylor join the Pac 12, so the Big XII adds Memphis, Cincinnati, Boise State, UCF, Colorado State and Georgia Southern who has won 12 out of 15 Sun Belt championships and won the access bowl three times and have expanded Paulson stadium to 40k seats.

So if the Big XII has an absolute implosion and GS is the best G5 program in the history of football, you might make it to a conference that's only marginally better than the AAC is now and still not a power conference.

You can say "you never know" all you want, but the only conference you have an even remote chance of joining in the next decade is CUSA.

At this point it is ridiculous for Southern fans to be talking about leaving the conference. There are so many unknowns, and we don't even know how long our coach will stick around. Let's just enjoy doing well where we are at. We may still end up with a mediocre record.

Let me try an clarify what I meant by moving on. I am hoping along with wishful thinking maybe when I said what I did. I have no idea what would happen. We also dont know what may happen with conference realignment or teams dropping in and out of them in the future. I used the number 10 years as alot can happen in a decade. Because of the way the gap has closed on the competitiveness of teams in the past several years, I think it will force some things to happen, maybe not. I dont know if GS will ever get into a bigger conf. I hope they do as im sure most of you would with your teams. I am just basing my opinion on what I have seen over the past 20 years or so with the growth of the school and the success of the program. I also know that GS has a president, which is important, that wants to promote our brand to be more national and try to push for more growth, especially football in the future. 'The last president did not. Plus the boosters and other members of the GS program are pushing for this as well. I am basing this also on the fact that GS is in one of the best places regional wise to recruit football players and GS has become a very attractive place to see and go to school. I understand that a couple of other schools in the SB have grown alot also as of late and have had many upgrades to their campus and football facilities. Im not saying what I did to try and brag or act like GS is better. If it came across that way it wasnt my intention. I have been a part of GS football since 1987 and have seen the growth and success. We had a couple opportunities to move up in the past but didnt take them. I have two kids at GS now and have seen the tremendous growth of the school and upgrades to the campus and football facilities and see the excitement all around it. Its hard not to think that the success will not continue along with the growth.When you have success and the people around it and involved in it pushing for more it usually continues. That doesnt mean we wouldnt lose to Ga State next season or have some growing pains again. Im sure we will have our share of bumps. We have been very fortunate to be having the success we have this season, but I also knew that GS would fare well at this level of FBS.

Yeah I wasn't trying to say that you escalated anything, if you took it that way I apologize. Just saying that one fan made a statement about our success and future, which I really don't think he meant anything negative towards the conference by saying it, and it took off from there. Always happens with our bunch because there are a ton of us and we are vocal.

Did Mike Smith injure five OL for us? Five different OL squads in eight games? Three different centers? A fourth quarter in Minnesota with a TE playing RT...

We were never a Super Bowl team this year, but I think our team in camp was a 10 win team.
