BTW ... is there some contest in Ohio to see how many times you can repaint the lines on a major highway without actually doing the resurface work that is needed? I-75 near Columbus is in bad shape. And the I-75 bridge from KY into OH is made mostly of rust.

The I-75 bridge in Cincinnati has been outdated for decades but the federal gov't hasn't approved the replacement. Now they are willing to give some money but it has to have a toll on it, which the northern Kentucky communities are against (for obvious reasons). Stupid federal gov't and its pet projects that make no sense, while 1 of the busiest bridges in the United States deteriorates right in front of them. I can see this bridge being the next I-35 bridge.

As far as Columbus, you must have meant I-71.

The tolling requirement seems odd considering that Illinois and Missouri were able to reach an agreement on a toll free span over the Mississippi River. Is it because KY isn't interested in participating in equal financing?

The federal gov't is only giving its portion of the "financing" if there is a toll to cross the bridge. Ohio has said it could go along with it, but Kentucky doesn't want it. Essentially, the communities in Kentucky are concerned it will cause their residents to move to Ohio so they can avoid the toll going to and from work. I don't blame them for that.

It should be toll free as far as I'm concerned.

Oh I understand why KY doesn't want, but it doesn't appear as though the bluegrass State has proposed an alternative means of financing that would make up for the gap the toll would cover.

And in political news, Jason Carter's campaign is now trying to use Atlanta's Snowpocalypse to slander the current Governor's leadership acumen.

RE: Ugh. Ohio.
The federal funds shouldn't have such a conditional. I'm fine with local government having an on-peak toll to help extract the money to pay for it from its primary users. But I think it's bullcrap to toll somebody from South Carolina who uses it twice a year as a piece of the federal interstate puzzle he already pays for.

And you would be sure I would go out of my way to route around that bridge if it were toll.

Try it here on the WV/KY/OH border. We're treated to KY and WV Senate races, 2 WV congressional races and an Ohio congressional race. It is non-stop mudslinging and every single candidate, no matter what party, is running against Obama.

RE: Ugh. Ohio.
I did have fun while I was up there trolling some of the Ohio people.

"Who do you root for?"
--- The OSU.
"Really? You're a LONG way from Oregon."
--- THE OHIO State University. The only OSU.
"Ooooohhhhhhh. So the Bobcats right?"
--- *bit of steam off the forehead*

--- Where are you from?
"South Carolina"
--- What brings you to Ohio?
"Just wanted to see if there was anybody left up here."
--- ???
"Yea, figured all of y'all were in the South by now. The only thing we Southerners fear is a Yankee with a U-Haul who is voting age."

Yeah, being from NC, I like to troll them with the whole "First In Flight" stuff. Makes 'em mad and I couldn't really care less, but it's fun nonetheless.

LOL. I hate to admit it (I vacation every year in NC, sometimes 2 separate times) but it bothers me too. The Wright Brothers are fellow Daytonians and they designed everything in their workshop here in Dayton, Ohio. Thus, Ohio is much more important to flight than NC, in my very biased opinion.

Yeah, that's what ya'll all say. lol.

However, the damn thing actually flew on the Outer Banks, so that's where the first FLIGHT occured.

The wing first flew on Huffman Prairie. I count that. :)
