Time to seriously consider dropping this sport. Only 74 DI schools have wrestling programs and we're the only SB program.

This is where once again Title 9 kills off a excellent sport. Wrestling is by far the hardest sport I ever competed in, I hope App never drops this sport and I am glad the SoCon has kept the sport and us in it.

We completely agree on this one! I remember coming off the mat after matches and being so wiped out that I couldn't squeeze the water bottle. I hate that this sport is dying in the NCAA.

Under Paul the wrestling camp brought in more than enough money to support the program, but that's no longer the case. He had tremendous connections in the wrestling community and like so many cases the relationship was with him and not the university.

App really has no business trying to support 18 sports on $21 million budget. Especially when you consider only five SEC schools sponsor as many sports as App and those budgets dwarf ours. We need to find a core group of sports and strive to fully fund those and pay the coaches well. The biggest problem with wrestling is there are only 7 DI schools in NC (App, Davidson, Campbell, G Webb, Duke, UNC-CH and NC State) with teams. We have 29 guys on the roster and while I'm sure many are paying their own way, that is still 29 people plus 4 coaches, trainers managers and other support staff that must travel, be fed, housed and provided equipment and uniforms for. While in the grand scheme it may not be much money, but all those sports that do not cost that much individually require a pretty substantial investment collectively.

If we do cut I would imagine it would be sports the SBC doesn't offer.

As someone who supports HS teams that attend those camps, we're big fans of App's wrestling program and wished that other belt programs (including GA Southern) were active in the sport.

From a business perspective, I do understand and I'm afraid the writing is on the wall. From a standpoint of athletics, tradition and personal respect for the sport, I just hate to see this trend.

The Sunbelt also doesn't sponsor soccer. I would hate to see that sport take a hit as well, but as we become more focused on the future, there are likely to be some very difficult decisions ahead.

SB added soccer this year.

I don't know the specifics but I know the camps each year brings in around 4k from our teams. There were probably 50 teams at that camp we attend. Throw in multiple weeks, you'd think there was a solid revenue stream at App.

Thanks! Obviously, I did not know that. That's great news! I have been running behind on my Sunbelt reading lately.
