ECU may or may not have done themselves favors in winning tonight but VT getting blown out by Miami 30-0 will not help at all.

Couldn't have had a worse night for our access bowl chances other than actually losing.

The wheels have come off of VT since they left OSU with that win

ECU just needs to try and win their next game and then move on to the next one to the end. That is the only thing they have any control over. If they finish with one loss and a conference championship they will have as good an argument as any other conference champion.

Not the Temple, Cincy, or UCF games. The rest yes.

Its so tiring of everyone focusing on the end, rather than just the here and now.

The media constantly talks about this team and that team for the playoff, "projections" and such.

In reality its all just talk, the games have to play themselves out.

It has gotten to the point where ECU has to defend winning by double digits...IMO, that's just stupid. Let's just watch and stop worrying about rankings, winning by 30...it has gotten to the point where we are concerned with the halftime score...

I agree. I said in another thread, with all the complaining you would think we were 1-6 not 6-1. As fans lets just enjoy the season and stop worrying about how much we beat a team by or what UNC or Va Tech does. If we keep winning games, regardless of the bowl we will have a great season.

Unfortunately for me, VT is not a quality win by any team anymore. :(

On the other hand UNC could easily win out and end up 8-4 and probably close to ranked.

I agree that it is bad that we have to apologize for only winning by 21, 11, and 10 in conference

I'd slow my roll on win out, but at this point we need them to do something because VT's in the tank. I was holding out hope right up until last night that they might turn it around, but clearly they won't.

The problem is without an auto bid and without a quality tie in for the champ of this league we have to worry. The real potential is there to end up 11-1 and be playing in the Miami Beach Bowl or the Military Bowl and that would be criminal.

We could end up in the Birmingham bowl against South Carolina. 02-13-banana

RE: Not Helpful
People can say what they want about Virginia Tech, UNC, and South Carolina being disappointing. I would point to VT's win over one-loss Ohio State, UNC's win over 5-2 Georgia Tech, and South Carolina's win over one-loss Georgia as greater evidence of those teams' quality than anything that a Marshall opponent has done. Furthermore, I would argue all three, along with Temple, Cincinnati, and UCF, are at worst on par with the best team on Marshall's schedule, and at best, they're all better than anyone Marshall plays.

Remember that the selection committee watches a ton of film and has all kinds of data to work with. Everything works in ECU's favor except for a close road loss at South Carolina. Now, if ECU loses a second game, unfortunately that would put ECU at the mercy of committee members. The strength of schedule argument gets weaker with every loss. But I think it will be pretty clear to the committee that going 11-1 against ECU's schedule would be more difficult than going 12-0 against Marshall's.
