Agreed.

True, although I don't think it has to be 14 football-producing teams. IMO, every ACC team has to excel at either football or basketball - both if possible, but at least one. For schools like Wake Forest and Duke I'm fine with basketball being a money producer for the league (and typically they can take turns being good at football, too). However, what cannot happen is for a bunch of teams to fail to make the top 40 in either sport. You MUST have a winning record in football OR basketball, and that MUST include BOTH conference and non-conference records (IMO). In fact, I'd say each team must win at least 75% of their non-conference games...

The dead weight in football over the past 10-15 years been Miami, UNC, UVa, and NC State. The ACC's problem in football is not Wake and Duke, it's Miami, UNC, UVa, and NC State. Two of these four need to have periodic 10 win seasons and average 8 wins a year, not oscillate with 6-7 wins a year and the occasional 8-9 win season.

Some schools help their conference by being consistent winners. Others, like Wake and Duke, help by being consistent losers. It's the ones that are always just a little below mediocre that hurt you. Perversely, Duke is threatening to move back into the mediocre category and out of the losing category. That just exacerbates the problem in the ACC Coastal.
