OK. Somebody had to get this discussion started.

A lot of talk about how UNT is on a downward trajectory. But this game makes me a bit nervous. Coming out of the last break we didn't look so hot playing ODU. I hope we're not gonna get trapped.

Rice continues to build on its strong performanc against Army, setting up a big 2nd half that propels Rice into the conference championship game. Pretty crazy how North Texas obliterated 2 opponents (SMU & Nicholls St), but then was crushed by most of their other opponents.

Rice 42, UNT 21. We always play well in the second half of the season. This year will be no different. I'll lose my mind if we win 8 games after losing all of last year's talent.

I blew it last week by underestimating Farrimond's FG potential. 44-17, Rice.

I would be interested to see that, too. I have long held the idea that Rice is perpetually underrated by the betting public due to two reasons:

1. A bad image - most sports bettors don't really analyze the games or teams, they go off image and home field.
2. With our small alumni and fan base compared to most other teams, we just don't have as many "homer" bettors. When we play larger or more well-known schools, this leads to an imbalance in volume over what a sober, dispassionate analysis would give.

I doubt that this would be a lot - even against teams like Notre Dame, probably just a couple of points - but to professional sports bettors, 2 points is huge.

I used to have a friend who was a small-time, part-time bookie. He let me have an arrangement in which I took Rice ATS for the whole season without vig, constant bet amount, and we settled up at the end of the season. I always made a few bucks - usually about two bets worth. He passed away, and so I cannot give current results. I suspect we are 4-2 ATS so far.

Rice is indeed 4-2 ATS, based on closing lines.

A&M and - of course - ODU are the two.

Norm Hitzges on the Ticket in Dallas has us as a double play vs. the spread. Had a few generic nice things to say about the Owls. I predict we win but won't cover....37-24.

Good in college...68-50. Not so good in pros: 24-35.

He has picked Rice twice this year as single plays, vs.
Army and vs. ODU.
