Disappearing cannon
Maybe I missed it in another thread, but what happened to the cannon in the second half of the Miami game?

Could the fact that it frightens Mission have something to do with it?

We shouldn't let a dog dictate whether or not the canon fires. Hopefully there's a legitimate explanation.

+1

It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's the case. And Diesel is no longer allowed to run the field. Incredible.

BRING BACK DIESEL!

At the coaches show Monday night, Carey said that they ran out of shells. Too many scores.

That did happen a year or two ago.

Who ******* cares? = 3rd quarter music. 3rd down music. what uniforms we wear. if the canon fires after every score. if the canon scares the dog. if the dog can't run on the field.

Seriously, do these things really affect your ability to get excited or enjoy NIU football?

This was a poor time for a misspelling.

That's a really lame reason, if true.

kind of makes you wonder what would make a Huskie football gameday perfect in some eyes. have to admit none of this really ever occurs to me. Maybe its just me, but I really enjoy each game and don't get caught up in the minutia

All of this stuff is what makes watching a game at Huskie Stadium unique. Does it matter more than winning? No. But it's what makes coming to our stadium different from being anywhere else. Traditions big and small create a unique culture. NIU has cultivated a unique culture and the canon, dog running across the end zone, and red uniforms are part of that.

They figured with the way the Huskies offense was playing this year, they didn't need to have more ammo. I heard with the money they saved on the ammo, they bought more hot dogs.

Telling people to sit down should also be included in the traditions.

Leaving at halftime? Could that be an NIU tradition?

Yea, it's not a big deal, but we have so few traditions, it's nice to have a couple you can rely on. Besides, they could have used a real shell and taken out the monstrosity known as Zulaaf hall - kill 2 birds with one stone.

Hmmmmm.....
Texas and Texas A&M both fire a canon after a touchdown. Not unique. University of Wisconsin and I believe many others play 3rd quarter music. Not unique. Every football program in the country plays 3rd down music. Not unique. The University of Washington runs a Huskie onto the field. Not unique. The University of Nebraska has red uniforms. Not unique. The only thing that MAY be unique is if the dog is scared by the canon.

Tradition...

Agree, we have very few unique, if any.
