Nick's Picks Week #9
After taking my lumps last week here are this week's picks...so far my YTD record is 55-19, hopefully we'll build on that this weekend.

NIU 37 - Eastern 20
Since beating UNLV on Sept 13 the Huskies have struggled over the past month...historically they've crushed the Eagles but this year may be different. EMU is 2-0 at home and have three of their final five games on the gray turf.

Western 31 - Ohio 22
Ohio was opportunistic last week in their home win against Akron while has won two straight road games. Look for Western to serve up some home cooking at Waldo this weekend.

Toledo 42 - UMass 37
I expect a dog fight this weekend as the Minutemen are playing with tremendous confidence under their new coaching staff while Toledo's defense seems to give up record performances to everyone they play.

Akron 23 - Ball State 21
On paper this should be one of the tightest games of the weekend...Ball State held on for their road win at Central while Akron found a way to lose at Ohio last weekend. I see a role reversal this weekend in Muncie.

Miami 38 - Kent State 23
Glad to see KSU get a much deserved victory for a program that has certainly endured hardships this year. Miami looks to be really coming together each week under their new coaching staff, especially on offense.

Buffalo 24 - Central 16
Two very hard to predict teams as each has underachieved this year...Central has clubbed NIU & Purdue but somehow lost at home to Ball State and were crushed by Syracuse. Buffalo has just plain struggled all year. This will be a brief "feel good game" for someone and I expect the Bulls to pull away in the 4th quarter.

CMU only putting up 16 on Buffalo's putrid defense? You can do better than that.

Not saying CMU will win, but this game will be in the high 20's at the lowest.

Didn't realize the Eagles are 2-0 at home. If they could beat NIU, that would be great.

Any one of us have a better chance of winning the Powerball, twice, back-to back!

Won't happen. At best, the Emoos will beat the spread due to their B&W Halloween setup with uniforms and field colors.

Hare will light them up -- as will their running game.

EMU doesn't need to beat them. IF it were to come down to us vs NIU -- that'll be the last game of the regular season. If we Happened to be tied then -- PJ Fleck and his strength of a thousand field mice will make us win.

Unfortunately, I think Toledo will limp their way through. SIGH. (No, they won't go undefeated in Conf play)

I watched Toledo's games vs Mizzou and Cincinnati and saw them get all their injuries. This is murder that they're going to end up winning it. One thing I'll agree with Toledo fans about our game vs them this year: Toledo was playing with a lot of injuries.

And that is the thing:

I have said this about Toledo for 20 years: NEVER count them out!

RE: Nick's Picks Week #9
NIU 44, EMU 23
* NIU starts off looking a bit sluggish getting used to the B&W arena -- but adjusts in the end. Unlike Miami, EMU is just... well, Emoo.

Ohio 27, WMU 30
* Ohio beats the spread on this one. WMU pulls it out -- thank gawd at home. But Ohio's O gaining traction gives WMU's D problems, while Ohio's D keeps WMU in line, despite WMU thankfully realizing their O was very sub-par the week before (if they don't, they'll lose).

UMass 34, Toledo 44
* You'd be a fool to bet on Toledo with a -17 point spread on this one. They pull away in the Glass Bowl. But OMG, it very well may be closer than this.

Akron 24, Ball State 27
* The MAC just got weirder. BSU wakes up a bit. Thank you injuries at Akron! Akron can only hope BGSU flounders...

Kent State 27, Miami-OH 34
* Even money. Kent's good D hold Miami; Miami's BAD D gives Kent air -- but thankfully for the Redhawks, it's at home and they pull it out like a senior in the back of a limo, with a sigh of relief.

Buffalo 33 - Central 41
* It's a battle much of the way, but CMU wins it out, beating the 6pt spread by a bit. Buffalo's still reeling in confusion over the HC-change, and CMU wants to establish themselves and for some reason keep Eno's job -- which they help solidify this week.

I usually pretty much agree with Nick's picks but this week I like yours better. Maybe it is just force of habit from years past but I also like the MAC West prevailing against Akron and Buffalo.

It just shows how deep Toledo is, especially offensively. Its nice to have 5 running backs that can carry the load. But Hunt is back today, but it is unknown how many snaps he will take.

UT your backs are good especially Hunt, nut not sure they are as accomplished as your OLINE. IMO, your OLINE is the strength of your team.
