SOT: Central or South Florida could become a flagship school
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/features/...x=81738348

Quote:Officials in the City of South Miami have passed a resolution in favor of splitting the state in half so South Florida would become the 51st state.

Vice Mayor Walter Harris proposed the resolution and it passed with a 3-2 vote at the city commission meeting on Oct. 7.

Harris told the commission that Tallahassee isn't providing South Florida with proper representation or addressing its concerns when it comes to sea-level rising.

Based on the results of many similar movements in other states, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well if the city of South Miami can pass this "resolution" by a whopping 1 vote, I'd say it is a done deal.
Too bad I'll no longer be in the same state as UCF.

Give it a few more years and Tallahassee won't have to worry about representing South Florida because this is what Miami will look like. 03-2thumbsup

Well, if Scotland can have a vote on whether to break away from England, I don't know a reason why Florida voters can't have a referendum on whether to split itself apart. Every year there are many serious ballot initiatives voted on down here.

True, but who would have thought a few years ago, that Scotland would ever hold such a vote? Quebec has also thought about breaking away from Canada. Historically, States in the US have broken apart before, so it's not that crazy an idea.

Basically all of the tourist money would be in South Florida with that map. Disney, universal, sea world, Busch gardens, buccaneers, dolphins, magic, orlando city soccer, marlins, heat, rays, florida panthers, tampa bay storm and south beach would all be there.

North Florida gets the jags and the dump that daytona beach has become

Actually Havana is in North Florida. I think you meant to say North Habana.

Sounds like its a good time for Alabama to take all the way to tallahassee and let georgia have the rest. Then build a 100 foot high wall.

Sneak attack

just a FYI, but USF IS a Flagship University. The state of Florida, by decree has three of them UF, FSU and USF.

Pretty much what I was thinking when I saw the map. The Florida-Georgia Line will have to change their name, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to allow.
