UNC should have to forfeit every championship in football and basketball for the past several decades. All of those teams were kept eligible with these fake classes and papers.

They will skate on this though. It is infuriating.

What football championship? 03-lmfao
maybe they fluked into an ACC championship one year?

Academic fraud isn't just happening at UNC. It's been happening at ECU as well just not on a bigger level like it is at UNC. Plus ECU did the right thing and self reported it. That being said, How much you want to bet that ECU gets the bigger punishment between them and UNC? Mark my word, they will let UNC off the hook like all the other P5 schools. Its a shame but that's how it works in college athletics now.

ECU placed on probation for Academic Fraud

I still say UNC has naked pictures of the media and NCAA executives.

Check the diplomas on the walls at ESPiN and other media outlets. You'll be surprised how many spent time in Orange County, NC.

Please give me ONE LEGITIMATE REASON why UNC does not deserve the DEATH PENALTY, along with MIAMI (The university of paid players). Both of them have certainly earned it!

I doubt we ever see another death penalty in a revenue sport. The extent of the damage done to SMU was serious that it scared the NCAA into not using there most effective deterrent.

This along with the fact that it's an academic violation. The NCAA doesn't give 2 bowel movements about academics. They'll get a stern "Don't do it ever again for the next couple of years or until this whole thing blows over."

1. Miami didn't pay players. A convicted criminal did.

Seems rampant throughout UNC, ECU and possibly the NC system.

I wouldn't say that. ECU self-reported and it truly seemed isolated- an issue they nipped in the bud the minute they discovered it.

Basically, there's UNC-CHeat and there's everyone else.

Yep, just another example of Chapel Hill arrogance.

Exactly. If ECU, Charlotte, or any other UNC system school did 1/10 of this they'd probably revoke our University status. Because it the holes the BOG will do little to nothing.

+3 Thanks for clarifying that. Anytime something like this has popped up at ECU we nipped it in the bud immediately. An isolated incident of a few players happened with baseball and tennis a couple of years ago. We had a few instances of primadonna's on the football team thinking they could skip classes on a consistent basis and they were removed from the team.

This is pretty much worse than what anyone has ever done before.

(1) they were paying players, providing them cars, paying for their parking tickets, getting them out of trouble with the cops, etc.
(2) they created fake classes, a bogus major, have graduated "honor roll" students who were illiterate, etc.
(3) they had a professional agent/runner on the athletic staff, NFL alums were flying the players to other states and throwing lavish parties and buying jewelry for them
(4) the original NCAA investigator on the case got busted for being a HUGE UNC-CHeat fan- his facebook profile page was him decked out in UNC-CHeat gear posing with the mascot at a Tar Heel game
(5) they covered the whole thing up and have not cooperated in the slightest (the cooperation they tout was hiring a lapdog to do the investigation, pinning the whole thing on "a" rogue professor and "a couple" of rogue athletes)

These guys should get slapped into next century. What's worse is having to listen to the school and the fans tout all of their national success, etc., despite the fact that they probably have almost none of it in the past couple of decades without the cheating.

Is it SMU bad? I think another Death Penalty for a P5 school is needed in order to curb or stop all the cheating. What they are doing now is absurd.

Yes, it's SMU level bad (IMO), but because they have to protect NC basketball (if it were just the football program, I think they'd get heavy handed with them, but since it involves the entire Athletic Department) you KNOW nothing is going to come out of this.

RE: OT: Wainstein report is out - UNC guilty of decades of cheating,
The arrogance of UNC CHeat has never ceased to amaze me, the fact it has gone on for over 18 years also doesn't faze me. What a total slap in the face to not only our state, but also our black community. They used their kids like sweat shop labor to line their pockets, and then tossed them back to "the community" when they were done with them. Just goes to show, the Tar Hole mindset is wacked.

I give ECU credit, they self reported their issue and adressed it. UNC has taken this to a whole new level.

you just defined my disdain for all that is college athletics today....it mirrors society....it's painful to watch it happen

RE: OT: Wainstein report is out - UNC guilty of decades of cheating,
So, does ECU, Charlotte or App State get punished for this?

Or does the NCAA just go out of state to take out their frustrations?

Also, difficult to envision there aren't criminal violations here. Won't be a bit surprised to see the FBI Field Office in Charlotte open an investigation.
