Women's Hoops Picked Second in Sun Belt; Gault, Clark Earn Preseason Honors
UALR Sports Information
Release: 10/22/2014

LITTLE ROCK – The UALR women’s basketball team is predicted to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference in a poll of the league’s coaches released on Wednesday morning. Senior Taylor Gault has been named to the All-Sun Belt Preseason First Team and senior Kiera Clark is on the Second Team.

The Trojans received two first-place votes from the league’s coaches and finished the poll with 112 points, six behind first-place Arkansas State’s 118 points.

Last season, UALR finished third in the regular season and advanced to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals.

A member of the 2013-14 Sun Belt Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team, Taylor Gault returns to UALR for her senior season as the team’s top scorer. With a 15.1 points per game career average, Gault has led UALR’s offense for the last three seasons.

Gault started in 21 of 30 games last season, averaging 15.2 points per game. She is in the top four all-time at UALR in scoring average, field goals made, points, free throws made and blocks. Last year, Gault made a career-best 104 free throws, the second-best total school history. She helped the Trojans to the conference tournament semifinals and blocked 18 shots during the year, and she has made the Sun Belt postseason all-tournament teams each of her three years with UALR.

Clark will be an indispensable leader for the Trojans and a key presence in the post in 2014-15. Clark was UALR’s second-leading rebounder last season with 6.2 per game, and she started 28 of the team’s 30 contests in 2013-14.

Clark also dished the ball extremely well, posting a career-best 65 assists during the season. She put up a career-best seven assists against Troy in the SBC Tournament. She was also a strong scorer last year, averaging 9.7 points per game and reaching double figures in 14 games. She had 17 points against then-No. 13 LSU, leading the team in that category.

This marks Gault’s third consecutive year as a member of the Sun Belt Preseason teams and Clark’s first time with the honor.

UALR’s season begins in just three short weeks when the Trojans head to LSU to take on the Tigers on Nov. 14 at 11:30 a.m.

Predicted Order of Finish (first-place votes in parentheses)
1. Arkansas State (9) - 118 pts
2. UALR (2) - 112 pts
3. Texas State - 93 pts
4. Georgia State - 82 pts
5. Troy - 70 pts
6. UL Lafayette - 64 pts
7. South Alabama - 49 pts
8. Appalachian State - 47 pts

Think it will go 4 OT's?

Its nice to be picked to win something. Women's team lost a couple starters from last year, but return an absolute ton of talent. So much so that I sacrificed my Men's season tickets this year and bought Women's tickets instead.

At UALR we don't have to, or can't, make that decision. Season tickets are for both men's and women's games. Will you guys have to clear out your arena between the mandated weekday doubleheaders? That would seem to be a pain in the neck.

Thursday's will be a straight doubleheader, so if you buy a Women's ticket, you get into the Men's game for free. We have always played split Saturday DH's. Women play at 3, arena empties, and then the Men play at 7. On really cold days, fans are allowed to stay in the arena between games.

Admittedly, we have 7 traditional doubleheaders this year in league play and only 4 Saturday DH's. That means my Women's Tickets will get me into 7 Men's games free of charge.
