But they have the darn near worst schedule in the conference, and IMO they beat Northwestern when they were playing like dog crap to start the season.
We have one common opponent, with a 2 TD swing in the results vs. CMU. Both games at home for each respective school.
Our WMU game to their Kent State game is not comparable (like we thought) because as we have seen WMU is actually a formidable MAC team this season. Unless we lose to Umass, or struggle with Kent I am going to guess we will win the following game vs. NIU. Maybe not a big win, because of the (rivalry) factor, and obviously both teams will be battling. How we win THAT game doesn't matter to me.
But I think NIU will probably lose another MAC game, maybe be 5-3 or 4-4 when it's all said and done.
One thing Toledo has that NIU doesn't is DEPTH. How many teams can respond to injuries like Toledo has. We've gone through the meat of our schedule as far as big time opponents go, and no we didn't play perfect... but the seniors are going for the MACC and every team in the way has a target on their back.
I am disgusted when people make their MAC power rankings, and Toledo is in the same tier with NIU. I am disgusted when SB nation has an underdog poll of the best G5 teams and NIU is 7th, and Toledo is off the list of top 15.
NIU plays BSU 6 days before us, and Toledo will have 7 days of preparation after a 10 day layoff before Kent State.
If Toledo fails to execute for 4 quarters THIS year vs. the Huskies, it's on the coaches because there should be NO Excuses.
The MAC West is in our control...
It starts with Umass
Play smart, no turnovers, FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS. The day is ours.

Have you seen NIU this year?
My God, they're 5-2!

NIU may be down this year but until you beat us for the MAC West crown, we will still be top dogs. Sorry to tell ya.
BUT with NIU being down, like I stated, I would not be surprised to see Toledo finally get over the hump this year. I still will predict a shootout and with it being in DeKalb I still may give the edge to NIU since I am a homer.
Good luck the rest of the way and lets keep the MAC West crown between NIU and Toledo for now and into the future as well!

You would think we are under .500 with a couple of the responses on this thread.

So until the world series is over the Red Sox are the best team in Baseball? Umm...
Until the MACC, NIU is still last years Champion... It doesn't mean they're the best until December 6th. A new season, and the past is almost thrown out the window.

Imo niu has played 3 fair to good teams and is 1-2. Toledo has played 6 fair to good teams and is 3-3. Im not counting ball state and i am counting UNH. For the casual football fan 5-2 looks good, and its not bad. I must look at it differently...

RE: Negative view on MAC West foe NIU
My original post should have been ISU not OSU, and I still think we let that slip through our fingers. The NIU game is in DeKalb, which does count against UT. We have played a tougher schedule, but could have easily lost a couple more games. WMU and BSU played with us toe-to-toe and luckily we didn't get called for a 12th man for the goal post at WMU. A couple of key defensive plays against CMU saved us. We should and did beat UNH. You would think the west is going to come down to NIU and UT. As I said before even though we're 4-3 we haven't shown we can play a complete game and finish an opponent. We had ISU and let it slip through our fingers. Mizzou was a mistake filled mess. I was at the train wreck of a Cincy game and when we had a chance to get back into it, we wilted. I'm blue and gold through and through, I just know what I've seen with my own eyes.
Let's get past Umass and take care of business so that we are in a position to play for a championship.
I hope NIU does lose a few more games, but like in past years we've had to rely on others to help us after we screw the pooch by losing earlier in the season to BSU. For once let's keep rolling and be in the power position instead of backing into the winning the west. Win the rest of our games and go into NIU and take care of business.

100% agree with you. I hate when people say "so and so is the top dog until someone knocks them off." Such BS and so annoying.
