I bet they will. wasn't there a basketball game the day we played UNC and there was some pregame football watching party in the blue room? with the game starting 2 hours before tip off I bet they will be all over this.

I will be at the Ted. Probably spending the first half in the Big Blue Room.

I thought it was close during the game? I always leave 5-10 minutes before tip so I don't know.

It typically does, but I wouldn't be shocked if they kept it open for the football game. I want to say they have in the past, but could be totally wrong.

November 29th Conundrum
I'm not sure if this will be a WS, Debbie White, Jeff Jones or even an ODAF decision. So I won't bother emailing them since they probably are aware of this issue/thread already.

What I would do is open the Big Blue Room at 12 and just leave it open until the football game is over. It's a compromise and an interesting case study as to how many paying basketball ticket holders will remain in the Big Blue Room.

Limiting the fans to one or the other is not the right move. We didn't make the schedule.

The right move would be to not play FB game in the BBR, but open it after the game and play it in its entirety, while offering additional adult beverages to BBR pass holders. A scenario where half the arena doesn't have butts in seats for a televised game against our archrivals, who will probably be ranked, is disastrous, IMO. I'd rather they just put their tickets back on the market so someone else can attend. What does that say to recruits that could be in the building?

Good idea. I think they should find a way to show the game in the arena with no sound, while the hoops game is going on. I also like the pre and post basketball party idea, but not the idea of showing the game in the BBR at the Ted during the basketball game. We need people in the chairs cheering, not in front of the TV if they are at the TED.

I think your point is valid and certainly can you how you feel that way as others that care much more about basketball would.

Do you think the arena would be full if football fans would put their tickets back on the market because they can't watch any of the football game? Do you think anyone is going to watch it on a taped delay after obviously knowing the outcome?

If you play the football game in the BBR, people will show up....if the game is "over" by 2, they will venture into their seats. A lot of people may just head down to the BBR to periodically check the score.

For me, if I can't watch the game or periodically check the game, I'm far more likely to stay home than to go to the Ted. I would guess I'm not the only one.

It is likely THs final game and we could be chasing bowl eligibility. I doubt many people are willing to watch the game tape delayed especially if there is significant hype surrounding it.

My guess is many would be angry and stay home if ODU did not offer some sort of alternative.

Yes, good points R8R. I could certainly see us beating Western or Vandy plus FIU and having that last game determine the oft chance of a bowl bid and .500 season. If that's the case, I'm certainly more interested in the outcome than 1 of 30 basketball games, even if it's VCU.

RE: November 29th Conundrum
Maybe the idea of playing it without sound on the scoreboard has merit.

As far as putting the tickets back on the market, at least the VCU fans will buy them. While not ideal by any means, at least we won't be televising an empty arena against a ranked team.

It isn't even that I care much more about the basketball world. If we were at the Ted playing against UMES and we had a contending football team playing on the road against another contending team, my sentiments would be the opposite. Bottom line is the VCU game is more important IMO. They could easily censor the outcome of the football game by not announcing the score and launching a marketing campaign asking fans that engage in their phone to do the same. My goal is to watch the entire basketball game at the Ted and also be able to watch the whole football game without having the outcome spoiled. Hopefully someone comes up with a solution that doesn't involve empty stands at the Ted.

Ever, you can bank on knowing what happened in the football game. It's going to be impossible for you to not hear what the outcome is.

I have received a message saying the football game will be on in the Big Blue Room (though not sure about during the basketball game or not) The football game will also be on the tvs throughout the arena.

As much as it is screwed up, they have a chance to really turn a setback into a comeback here. I'm sure they are more than aware of it.

One thing is for sure: they read these boards. I hope they come up with a good compromise.

I think in this day and age its not feasible to avoid finding out the results of game your trying to avoid minus watching alone at home. People, including myself, crave to know live results, and DVRing sports is not the same as DVRing your favorite tv show, live sports is probably the one thing keeps cable afloat.

My feeling is your going to e like the guy in the car commerical trying to avoid the score to the US soccer game at all cost, only to have someone you least expect ruin it for you.

A good set of earplugs might work though

No way they should leave the Big Blue Room open during the game. Why would we want people out of their seats? It would be a slap in the face to the basketball program.

This is the biggest game of the year for basketball against our biggest rival. If you are going to the Ted, be all in for the basketball game.

Agreed. Play it in the BBR until the basketball game starts and then put it on the tvs in the concourse, but do not keep the BBR open just for the game and do not put it on the video board during live play of the basketball game.
