Nobody has talked much about Arledge, but he was huge today. It sure does make a difference having a big to dump the ball into when the offense isn't clicking like in the first half tonight. He really kept us in the game. Then hit a couple daggers in the second half.

This year, other teams will not ware us down. We will not be gassed in the end game. UNCW did not have their legs the last ten minutes.

To be fair, uncw only has 9 scholarship players and a brand new coach.

Their lack of depth really showed in the second half.

It was a very solid performance tonight but we were down at the half to uncw.

Let's see how we do against a deeper, stronger more veteran team before we make sweeping pronouncements that we are going to be "really good".

I do like our collection of talent though and trey freeman is exactly the player I thought he was.

I brought him up on this board three years ago when we was lighting teams up as a freshman at Campbell and I asked how Blaine could have missed this kid.

Thank god we finally have him though because he is a flat out player! And his ability to knock down ft's at a nearly 90% clip (he has that ability) could be huge for us late in games this year, helping us to finish teams off the way we couldn't before when we struggled so mightily at the stripe.

Great game tonight, let's see how well we can keep it moving forward next game against a deeper, more physical and more than likely, better coached Richmond squad.

That game will tell us far more about where we are right now than this game.

Yes, it's awesome! So glad he's here now. Better late than never!

They have a chance to win the conference championship. Please get out there tomorrow and support them." He seems truly humble, and was very thankful for the support of us fans.

73% free throw shooting as a team?! Not bad.

How cool would it be to make the NCAA's and be matched up against USC?
On second thought, ODU will probably get there first.

It was nice to see Coach Jiones make some adjustments at the half to limit what UNCW was doing in the first half. Excellent job of in game coaching.

Coach Jones 1 - coaches who should gave been hired 0..

You could tell at the end of the first half that UNCW was gassed. Its difficult to play their style for a full 40 minutes, not to mention the fact that they don't have a full team. Overall, ODU was sloppy against their pressure. It was the first game of the season so hopefully we will be able to tighten it up before VCU comes.

More than anything it was great seeing the team be able to overcome quiet nights from Ross and Palmore. If these guys didn't score last year, we would have lost. Its nice to have the depth. The free throw shooting and 53% from 3 point range were great to see as well.

We had 9 scholarship athletes and a new coach last year and YOU didn't even give us the benefit of the doubt. All you did was complain that Jones didn't recruit or that Jones was the wrong guy.

A loss to Richmond won't change my mind. Palmore, Ross, and Mosley combined for 16 points and we won by 20.

Consider me the counter to those that see doom after one bad game.

I am excited to see the growth of this team over the next ten games (and beyond.) The elements are in place and now we get to see the chemistry take over. There are a lot of new pieces to this team, and thankfully a lot of existing experience as well. Overall, I think one of the things that Coach Jones almost always emphasizes when he talks about his team, that they are "good kids", will begin to show. They do seem to be very coachable, and he is a very good coach. That, along with the talents thay have could take this team places it has not been in some years, and even some places it has never been. We shall see how it all comes together. I understand the calls to temper expectations, and I agree, but it is exciting, and it will be fun!

GO MONARCHS!!!

Much much much improvement over last year! At least we made our FT's!!! Was very impressed with our new players last night. However, I still feel that our lack of height/bulk will still haunt us once we get into conference play. To me, Nik is a very key component on this team. If he can help us in any way, it will be a huge advantage. Thought he would get more PT last night and that disappointed me a little. Should be very interesting to watch the season unfold. Richmond will be a much better test for us.

Nik wasn't needed last night. I'm sure he'll get some time to bang in conference play.

Great game last night! I echo many thoughts above about the excitement over this team. When was the last time we had a point guard that could hit an " in your face" pull up jumper? Plus it's nice to see a post player like Arledge you can look to for a bucket. Taylor provided a good lift off the bench and I thought Baker played well too considering it was his first start. He didn't try to force anything early when everyone was struggling.

I like the starting lineup Jones threw out. It leaves us with a strong bench ready to contribute at just about every position. Congrats to the whole team for a job well done.

Agree 100%. Nik will have plenty of opportunities to help us but the rest of the front line was playing well last night and Jones tightened up the rotation in the second half after our early struggles. I like the hustle and aggressiveness that Nik brings when he comes in. He will be an important part of this team.

This team has depth and improved free throw shooting and excellent outside shooting. We should never be in foul trouble at the guard spots. At times we may be a little undersized but that should be taken care of next year when we get the 7 footer. I see improvement over last years record. Mabey some post season play.

100% agree. The team is still not at full strength, is working out the kinks and new roles but we won by 20 anyways.
