lol, Jesus Christ is a form of swearing. I'm not addressing him or her. The question was posed to the posters who find in necessary to start a new hoops thread every week. I'm excited about hoops too. I know everyone is. Using one of your favorite terms Petey, there's no need to ejaculate all over this board with new threads.

RE: Ready for Hoops
I started this one cause the others went off track. If you if want to add something about the upcoming season...please do so. I don't want to talk about JJ's hiring or Snowden, I want to talk about ODU MBB going forward and if we digress this tread will be deleted in a second. That's why I started it.

I don't think this will be the last MBB tread, it's for anyone who wants to talk 2014-15 ODU Hoops. Jeff is our coach and Snowden isn't on the team.

And this year we are beating VCU and going back to the NCAA tourney!

RE: Ready for Hoops
I was about to start the Mt. Olive game thread, but I think that might lead me to get run out of this place today.

I really, really, really want to beat VCU this year more then ever. My 5 year old is in the tank 100% and takes it personally. Losing that that game might result in a meltdown that will take down the Ted. He understands the game, knows what to watch for and cares, but isn't quite old enough to control the emotions. Watching a preseason game between 2 irrelevant NBA teams is like watching the worst case of bipolar and multiple personality disorder you have ever seen. He expects his team to win every game 140-0.

That looks right. Next year we add Caver, Carver, Pervier, and Stith. That is 13 so I'm not understanding why Ed Miller said we have another open scholarship for next year.

Stith is not on scholarship, yet. He doesn't exactly need one considering his situation.

I know Bryant makes decent money but I am sure he'd rather not pay tuition.

Some schools pay for the college tuitions of employees kids. I know Catholic University in DC did so. Don't have a clue if that is the case here or for any public schools, just a thought.

Didn't Doug McDermott not have a scholarship last year? Somewhat similar situation.

RE: Ready for Hoops
Ed Miller provides a quick update. Basically, right now, the starters look to be Palmore, Freeman, Bacote, Taylor, and Ross. Baker and Mosley off the bench in the backcourt, Arledge and Biberaj off the bench in the frontcourt. Deion Clark and Javonte Douglas playing a little catch up from missing time.

I'm getting excited for this year. Looking forward to it getting here soon.

RE: Ready for Hoops
So we're basically replacing Batten with Freeman, and Anton/Ebondo with Arledge/Biberaj while still having Ebondo as an option. Sounds like an upgrade.

Was hoping Douglas would crack the lineup.

RE: Ready for Hoops
I think Douglas will see some time, after he actually gets a chance to practice. With his suspension, he has to be way behind in his understanding of the system. Further, I'm not sure who you'd take out of the starting lineup to insert Douglas.

A guard. Douglas and Talley are the 2 true SFs on our team. Talley is redshirting. Hope Douglas can catch up and crack the lineup. Our front-court is too small to have a 3 guard lineup IMO.

RE: Ready for Hoops
A lot will depend on who we are playing. Against VCU or WKU, a 3 guard lineup may be what we need. Against LSU or UTEP, we need to go bigger. At least this year we can do that.

Wait I thought Biberaj was the second best player on the team? 05-stirthepot

RE: Ready for Hoops
I too have been to a couple of practices. Not sure what lead Ed to say Arledge would not be starting because he will be. Douglas will not be starting at the start of the season. Let's hope he works his way into the starting lineup sooner rather than later. There will be times when we start 3 guards.Freeman,Bacote,Ross,Arledge, and Douglas will be our starters in time. The sooner the better. We are deep at the guard positions. There will be times when Freeman and Palmore are on the court at the same time.Bacote and Clark will play the 3 spot until Douglas learns the system. Taylor will play a lot. He is a good rebounder and defensive player but no offense. Nick Biberaj[sp] will play some but he is a step slow.He does bring some offense. We are quite different this year in the fact that we can go with a small quick line up or we can go with a big line up depending on who we are playing. We also have enough players to play some really aggressive defense which is what Jeff is really working on right now.

yup, that's what one coach said. Guess he can't be trusted. . . . It would seem we have enough players of near equal ability to devise two-platoon system. Don't know off the top of my head how that would look, but I wonder if Jeff is considering.
