Gee, do you think they're trying to market the name "Honors Academic Village?"

RE: Honors Academic Village
ps: kind of ugly and unimaginative. Might have actually put some effort into the design.

I think it looks great. Another thing you have to remember is that amenities are just as important as the look. And you have to remeber integrity with other buildings which UT has done a nice job with. Much better then Dowd Nash and should help UT compete for the better students against other Universities.

Does anyone know when these will be finished? I think this is a great tie in with the new Honors College on campus! The reason I am wondering is because I thought that UT wanted to add some more new dorm space and then was going to tear down Carter East and West and make that more green space. Anyone know anything about that?

I believe the building opens fall 2015.
Carter may get torn down, but moving any sports teams there is off the board.

I think you are correct because someone referred to Mike O'Brian stating that Scott Park had good infrastructure but could use some updating, renovating, etc so they were doing that and seeking donations for same. Or maybe that was at a Downtown Coaches event? I think that the land where Carter is would simply be best for more green space.

You can't build on Carter Field because it's the only place for club sports and the only grass fields for football.

My garage is better than Dowd-Nash.

There is nothing unique about this that it will help UT compete with anyone. It's a vertical prison with narrow windows missing the bars. It's Snyder Hall with a cafeteria.

Weird colors on the renderings but it maintains some of the Gothic look. I'm guessing it won't be gray like it looks here. Don't need to be unique to compete. Catching up with other places makes you more competitive. I don't neccesarily like the elitism, though.

RE: Honors Academic Village
"Elitism"
Theme dorms and honors dorms are not unique but when they are not earned at the University level (UVA), U can see the impression that there are academic and behavioral problems in other dorms. I can see them being used inappropriately by Administrators to curry personal favor. I do hope they have followed through on implications and repercussions if the effect is an appearance of racial or cultural segregation.

Seems fairly unnecessary. People generally do not seem to have difficulty finding who they want to live and work with. "Honors" college is just going to be twisted into "everyone else is Owens."

But it's brand spanking new. This day and age, kids love new and modernized stuff. I'm all for enhancing our campus with new buildings and whatnot. I wish there was more renovations/ constructions going on.
