The Sun Belt’s annual basketball championships features both men’s and women’s play over the stretch of five days in March. The tournament kicks off with four women’s games on March 11 as the women play in a traditional eight team bracket. The champion of the women’s tournament will be crowned on Saturday, March 14. Men’s action begins on the evening of March 12 with two opening round games. The men’s championship features a unique format that offers two byes for the league’s top two seeds and one bye for the teams that finish the regular season third and fourth. The men’s champion will be crowned on Sunday, March 15 on a day that has traditionally been known as “Selection Sunday.” Only the top eight from the Sun Belt’s 11 teams make the tournaments.
Ticket books for the men’s and women’s championship will soon go on sale at each Sun Belt member’s ticket office and will also be available at http://www.ticketmaster.com.

I booked the Super 8 on Chef Menteur Highway which is the closest hotel to the arena. Booking it in advance (soon after last year's tourney) and using a discount (either AAA or AARP) I got it for $59 a night. It is clean, safe (i.e. has a gated parking lot if you are worried about the neighborhood) and got 4 out of 5 stars from reviewers on Trip Advisor. No it is not like staying on Bourbon Street, but it is actually cheaper than I paid in Hot Springs- and last year the conference provided a free bus from the arena to the French Quarter and back. It's a good alternative for those who want to go to the tourney, but don't want to spend well over a 1000 bucks to do so.
