Watched the game in a sports bar so it was hard to see who did what and missed the last 7 minutes to watch my son play soccer. Scoured the web for some Gaines stuff:
Several mentions from the KC paper including an entire article - Chiefs’ Phillip Gaines rises to challenge against Chargers -

"3. Where did Phillip Gaines come from with that performance?
This was excellent effort from Gaines, a 2014 third-round pick who made his first NFL start. He played the nickel, which is a tough role, and was targeted several times, but he often had solid coverage and even made one of the game’s biggest plays on a third down in the fourth quarter, when he knocked away a pass intended for Keenan Allen — a tough cover — over the middle. It would have gone for a touchdown, but the Chargers were forced to kick the field goal. That four-point swing helped make the difference in the end."
Postgame report on Chiefs site. 30 secs starting about 1 minute in. Includes a Rice mention.

Fox had this to say:
"Reid is now 14-2 coming off of byes as an NFL coach, and the prep work for this one showed in almost every facet. Rookie cornerback Phillip Gaines more than held his own in his first extended duty of the season, and a patchwork secondary that included Gaines, street free-agent Jamell Fleming and NFL journeymen such as Kurt Coleman and Ron Parker held Rivers and the Chargers to 182 passing yards and only three conversions on 10 third-down tries."

For a lifelong KC fan it's been a great couple of weeks. I was in the stands for the Monday night demolition of the Pats. 8-0 for the Royals. (To be honest I gave up on the Royals about two decades ago).
