How Georgia State Brought a Great Reckoning on Themselves
Georgia State football began with the Panthers’ first game against Shorter on September 2, 2010. Even before the first snap, Panther fans were lashing out at Georgia Southern and belittling the Eagles. A poster known as SaintDK10 arrived at GSUFans.com as early as January 2008. SaintDK10 at first said that he was on the Georgia Southern fan board to apologize for other G-State fans who were talking trash. He quickly showed his true colors and began to create threads claiming that “You guys will be a nice little FCS team to beat up on when we go FBS in a few years.” SaintDK10 stated with absolute certainty that G-State’s players would run circles around Georgia Southern’s if the teams ever met on the field. He did not just state that the Panthers had quality players, but that the Eagles were absolutely terrible and a garbage team. Other G-State fans joined in and made statements that Georgia Southern was irrelevant and G-State would draw thousands more fans to their games than the Eagles would.

Beyond GSUFans.com, G-State made a horrendous impression on the AGS forum. Panther fans talked down to every single FCS program and bragged about how good G-State would be. Then the losses started piling up. As the Panthers lost to programs such as Lambuth (now defunct), many FCS fans delighted in the just desserts served up to the obnoxious G-State posters. In the midst of the losing streaks, many FCS fans questioned the accuracy of G-State’s declared attendance. Photos of game crowds were posted and back-of-the-envelope math was done to determine how inflated the G-State numbers were. Desperately clinging to their last lifeline of legitimacy, Panther fans declared that anyone questioning their attendance figures was an idiot. Their favorite claims were that the evidentiary photos were taken while large sections of fans were at the concession stand or were of the visitors section. Other posters pointed out the obvious lapses in logic necessary to believe the G-State numbers, but Panther fans insisted that the numbers were accurate. Then the local newspaper published the true attendance figures and G-State was proven to be inflating their numbers by nearly 50%. Every program counts tickets sold rather than “butts in seats” in order to get better numbers, but Panther fans were insisting that their attendance numbers were accurate and not inflated at all.

To add a cherry on top of the poetic justice headed the Panthers way, a fraud of a “journalist” whose name I cannot bear to write began trolling Georgia Southern on his blog. This man honestly believes that he is a real reporter despite the fact that he is not a member of any accredited media organization. The clown with a blog began mudslinging like a politician in an election year and attacked Georgia Southern at every turn. He wrote that the Eagles were terrified of the Panthers and afraid to schedule a game. This was proven false when Bill Curry, then coach of the Panthers, went on record as saying that he wanted no part of playing the Eagles because the inevitable loss would not be good for G-State. Furthermore, Georgia Southern’s athletic director stated that he had reached out to the G-State administration and attempted to arrange a game, but was shut down. What the Panther fan with a blog had done was slanderous and served no purpose other than to troll up controversy. Meanwhile, the G-State forum had descended into full-on Georgia Southern hate. It was stated that Georgia Southern was a garbage program that nobody was aware of. The Eagles’ national titles and 3rd highest winning percentage of Division I football programs were mocked as being meaningless.

So the stage was set. The Panther fans had talked every bit of trash imaginable and put themselves into a corner. If G-State was successful, they would be able to gloat and say “I told you so.” If the Panthers collapsed into defeat, Eagle fans would have the right to shout the phrase. As it turned out, every prediction by the Eagle fan base came true. The Panthers stacked up an astounding losing record and their fans were practically nonexistent. Georgia Southern worked its way into the FBS based on the success of its program and has begun a shockingly meteoric rise to the top of the Sun Belt. Any amount of “I told you so” or “you guys really do suck” spoken by Georgia Southern fans toward Panther fans is a result of the years of trash talk Eagle fans endured. What fans of Georgia Southern want is the thing that has always been denied them by the G-State crowd: respect for the Eagles’ accomplishments on the field. When someone spends years telling you that they are better than you and you are worthless, you cannot help but enjoy it when realization comes crashing down on them. Georgia Southern fans would absolutely back off if the Panthers would be more reasonable. Instead, the G-State fans continue to build illogical attacks on the Eagles. They think that Eagle fans are being unfair by outnumbering Panther fans in the Georgia Dome and wearing white to make it obvious. One of the main reasons the Eagles are planning on wearing white to distinguish themselves from Panther fans is because of the aforementioned attendance nonsense. G-State fans will attempt to use pictures of the crowd as evidence of their fans showing up. Anyone who is not obviously a Georgia Southern fan will be labeled as a G-State fan by the Panthers so they can try to claim that they brought a big crowd and Georgia Southern did not show up. All Georgia Southern is trying to do is prove itself on a national stage. “This is our team. We win. Our fans are loud and proud. We are relevant. We are on the rise.”

Is this a 10,000 word essay, or a message board post?

tl;dr version: Football fans trash talk each other

Is this supposed to make us hate Georgia State? Because of a couple radicals?

RE: How Georgia State Brought a Great Reckoning on Themselves
We're very fortunate GaSt football came around. Ga Southern really didn't get serious about FBS until they blew past us to FBS. We very likely end up in FBS regardless, but no doubt we hit the panic button and got our act together after they received the SBC invite. They created a sense of urgency that was desperately needed.

So thank you GaSt. You should feel a bit of pride in every Ga Southern SBC win and future conference titles. I hope you are enjoying this remarkable season you brought upon us!

Not reading this crap. I'm guessing it is recalling stuff that has been said in every thread about GS and Ga state? Unnecessary thread is unnecessary.

This is true.

The allies v the axis in WWII wasn't a rivalry either.

Still. Someone please start another thread about GaState/Southern!

Please!

We are running dangerously low on them.

No it wasn't one poster. I liked Saint and his ridicules ranting’s. The Panther Talk Board once had a Smack Board & now they do not. After the Panthers would make some ridicules bombastic statement about Southern they were countered by about 10 Eagle fans on their Smack Board refuting there statements. They were overwhelmed with the TRUTH, couldn’t handle it and shut down the smack board.

You are right although, another tread was not necessary.
