BigTen P Rankings -week 8
The P in P Rankings stands for whatever you want it to stand for.
1. MSU
MSU finally finished strong, but has yet to play a full game. Big showdown coming on Nov 8 vs. OSU but needs to survive rival game vs. Mich first
2. OSU
OSU is playing so good right now, it was tempting to bump OSU up to #1, but how can you bump MSU down after MSU won 56-17? Who is #1 may have to wait until Nov 8.
3. Neb
I was not sure until about Neb until they beat Nw, but now Neb seems to be a little better than the teams grouped from #4 to #8
4. Minn
Minnesota never wins big but they keep on winning. Their athletic talent may be under-rated.
5. Md
Impressive victory at home against Iowa bumps it up to #5.
6. Nw
Tempting to bump them down lower, but it still has 2 bigten victories over Wisc and PSU and close loss to Minn.
7. Wisc
An unstoppable running game combined with no decent QB. What do you get? Wisconsin.
8. Iowa
Loss to Md was not as close the score. Iowa needs to regroup during its last bye week and prepare for 5-week stretch in Nov against the 4 top BigTen west teams.
9. Pur
2 close losses should not be enough to qualify for #9 but Purdue seems to have stepped it up since Appleby became the starter.
10. Rut
#10 to #12 is Rock paper scissors. Rut did nothing against OSU to move up.
11. Mich
Last chance for Brady Hoke in rival game against MSU. If Mich loses as expected, Mich may start to clean house.
12. PSU
PSU got exposed recently, but now had a week off to get things fixed
13. INDY
Too bad QB Sufeld got hurt. Indy could use Tre Roberson about right now. But i think it may be over for Indiana and Kevin Wilson this season despite all american talent in RB Coleman.
14. ILL
Could Beckman get canned after only 3 years? He better win at least 1 BigTen game or it could happen.

That must have been very hard for you to admit.

I have been tempted to link this thread to folks on the main board that still think MSU is showing themselves to be the better team. I wont do that to you though.
MSU could still end up being better and you guys do have the advantage of playing OSU at home. Hopefully your students would stay for that whole game.

RE: BigTen P Rankings -week 8
1. Michigan State: Purdue close game isn't looking as bad. Oregon is kicking into gear to so loss not bad at all.
2. Ohio State: They look like the best team lately. The Virginia Tech loss is looking worse and that's the only thing keeping them #2 for me here.
3. Nebraska: Been sold on them awhile. Not convinced they make it through, but think they are the most likely out of the west.
4. Minnesota: Probably will end this high, but they are undefeated in conference play including a win over Northwestern.
5. Maryland: Finally a big of movement from what I've had the past couple of weeks (2 east, then 5 west, then 5 east, then 2 west). The win against Iowa was good. That said, I think Wisconsin takes care of business this week and moves ahead. For the moment I have to rank the Badgers a bit lower though. Maryland does have one great thing in their favor. While winning the division is a big long-shot, they do play Michigan State after a bye and a week after the Spartans play Ohio State. If they somehow take care of business till then and if Michigan State wins that game (or Ohio State drops another), there's at least potential there.
6. Iowa: I've been more back and forth on the quality of this team than on any other in the conference. They really struggled early, but have looked better since. I can see them several places higher or lower by season's end easily.
7. Northwestern: A tale of 2 teams. Loosing those first two is brutal for their bowl chances, but I think they still make one. Wisconsin win very impressive.
8. Wisconsin: This is a team I think should be a lot higher, but I can't bring myself to rank them higher until I see something more. They lost badly to Northwestern. Beat Maryland this week and I'll probably move them up several spots.
9. Rutgers: Penn State, Michigan, and Rutgers have all played and split games. I was sold on Rutgers as the highest of the 3 last week. I'm not anymore, but Rutgers took care of business out of conference and probably should have won the game they lost so I'm narrowly giving them the spot.
10. Michigan: Team has not at all quit and losses look somewhat better. Utah is contender in PAC-12 South, Minnesota might be in the west.
11. Penn State: I have worry that the depth issues here are going to cause Penn State to falter more. That said, they might end up bowl eligible.
12. Purdue: Boilermakers haven't won a Big Ten game, but they've been close. Played well against Michigan State and Minnesota. I'm tempted to push them up a bit more, but can't quite pull the trigger. They are going to upset someone though.
13. Indiana: Missouri victory was huge, but I'm not sold on them vs. anyone else going forward except Illinois and they don't play. Definite room to move up as I think they can win when things come together right.
14. Illinois: Hate to see them down here given I think the school has so much potential, but can't rank them higher at the moment.

I am not saying this will change your rankings, but Purdue does have 1 BigTen victory, over Illinois, for whatever thats worth.

I knew that too and was thinking about it as I placed rankings (thought Purdue vs. Illinois was somewhat telling). Not sure why I wrote it like that.
