On the plus side, we had a nice turn out at MTSU
Had a better turn out by UAB fans than we usually have for an away game later in the season. Wish we could have taken the band was a nice cool day and for the most part was treated well by the Raiders fans.

The band should totally be going to these... Yeah, like south florida is too far, but Murph... c'mon!

Like most things, this is largely financial. I remember when the band used to go to only one away game per year. I know at least once before, a donor came forward and donated several thousand dollars to send the band on an extra away trip that wasn't previously planned.

The band played a band competition at Hoover High School yesterday.

Which they probably scheduled when they found out they weren't going to the game.
With it being homecoming for MTSU, we would not have been able to play halftime.
There was something on facebook about the decision-making... I'll try to dig it up.
EDIT: Memory served me right. It was in the budget for us to go this year, but when they found out they wouldn't get to play at halftime, they accepted the Hoover invite instead. Those exhibitions are huge for recruiting for the program. They are a blast to play, too. The entire crowd is watching and listening to everything you do.
They tried to get an alumni pep band together for MTSU, but I guess it never got any momentum.

This was my first ever UAB football road game and I was impressed with the amount of Blazers that made the trip. Seems like MTSU/UAB will be a quality rivalry game within the next few years.

Had 3 relatives attend the game.
I decided to take my kids to the fall festival instead.

There were quite a few UAB Fans there i would venture a guess at around 1000-1250 people. I was disappointed at the amount of MT fans there. It seemed a lot of them stayed out and tailgated instead of going to watch the game.

We took up about three sections, mind you not tight sections, in the stadium. I got a tickets from someone outside the stadium that was for the upper deck but moved with ease to the UAB section. --
Yes the MTSU fans were not strong in number. I got to the stadium nearly at kickoff and parked in a garage for free about 150 yards from stadium. I was by myself but meet some great fans at a place called Toots.

Yeah.. I am not sure how big their stadium is, but on TV it didn't look like it was even half full.

There stadium fits about 32000. the announced attendance was ~18000. I think that number is highly suspect. It seemed awfully empty. but who are we to gripe about attendance.

Definitely not our place to gripe. I don't think there were 10k in there based off of what I saw though. I'm not complaining, they are a good conference mate. Hopefully we can build a rivalry and get them closer to 30k when we play. I get that UAB is not a draw at the moment.

As far as rivalry games goes, I think this would be a better one than USM to develop into our "Iron/Egg Bowl", I hope we don't end up in the west next year. My observations on the crowd - mid/upper teens but due to their fans sitting so spread out makes it kinda misleading to look at to gauge size.

It would be nice to beat them in at least one football or basketball game. Since MTSU has become part of C-USA, UAB is 0-2 in football and 0-2 in basketball against them.
