I'm not for or against Briscoe, so is Clements that bad? The few times I've seen Briscoe play I can't say I've seen anything that made me say "Wow, he should start over Clements!"

He can make the long throws that Hackney could. I'm not sure we've had anyone since who could do that with any consistency. He can't hit a guy ten feet away from him though, so that's a bit of a problem.

In my opinion, Clement's main problem remains being slow or unable to work through his progression among available receivers. He seems to pick one and stare him down until he throws the ball to that WR, even if he has three defenders around him. His arm strength is not his problem and if he can get other WRs involved, he can be very good.

Is Briscoe any better at "looking off" DBs? I have not seen enough of him to know. They both have decent arm strength, so both can be good enough at QB to win some games.

Briscoe telegraphed his two pick-sixes in the FIU game. He and Clements are basically opposites. Briscoe should only throw deep; Clements should only throw short and intermediate routes.

Briscoe is tailor made for the old Raider / Steelers offense.

Run, run, play action run, run, play action pass & chuck it 60 yards and let Swann or Branch run under it, run, run run.

I.e. Briscoe's day against M$U is as good as it is going to get. 5-16 with 2 TDs and 230 yards.

I think Briscoe has a much higher ceiling. Unfortunately, right now he is close to the floor. 5-16 is not the best we can see out of him. I still think he has a good chance of being a starter a couple of years down the road, but at the moment he is not ready.

So the only criteria that puts Briscoe ahead of Clements, in some fans' eyes, is that Briscoe can throw the long ball. What good is throwing the long ball if your opponent has stopped your passing game and leaves your QB to short passes and scrambling, which some have said is Briscoe's weakness.

There in lies the age old question.

Do you pass to set up the run, or do you run to set up the pass ?

Do you shoot 3s to open up the paint or do you pound the rock into the paint to free up your 3 point shooters ?
