The ...... I'd consider that .... poll.
In the interests of trying to get people to read a block of text before voting in a poll ... I have hidden the location to this poll within my block of text. So if you want to vote in that important poll ... I suggest you read this.

A few people from both sides have suggested that is a few of the ESPN people who have largely led to the Spin Room going from fun filthy to unfun filthy ... and thus necessitating the need for the crack down clean up. I somewhat agree what that assessment.

My take on the particular issues:

1) A handful of liberal posters feel they have a right to never EVER be offended. I'm talking a hardcore feminist level protective bubble. The number of reported posts over absolutely nothing is a number that rivals the number of posts where okla doesn't understand libertarians but proceeds to attempt to redefine them anyway.

1B) These same people (not entirely, but mostly) *LOVE* to troll conservatives. They love to complain about garbage but they're not above using it if they think it will get a rise out of some people.

2) Some of the ESPN people are particularly vapid at political discourse, even by the already low standards this board had previously.

2B) When caught doing some particularly low antics, these people take on the gang mentality. They will get all universally banned or have severely restricted accounts if it keeps up.

3) Signal to noise was already falling off. I don't know if the ESPN crowd made this worse or not. ERC would, unrestrained, rain down religious right threads in considerable volume. I post a good wealth of stuff from the Reason Blog to try to hit some things I think are important but barely covered, and several others have their pet issues. Instead of 100 largely similar threads a day that don't go too far, it would be far better to have 20 a day where 10 are megathreads that keep going for a considerable timespan and cover a chunk of political interest.

So ... to be perfectly clear the original spin room is not an option I'm willing to lay out on the table.... probably ever again. But I'm willing to walk it back if the leftist douchebaggery and rightist douchebaggery and ESPN douchebaggery can get dialed back.

Here's how it would go:

1) Slurs are still flatly unacceptable. If a white man can't say it on broadcast TV at 7:00 PM ... don't post it. OBAMMY ISN'T A *** **** SLUR LIBERALS. The slurs of interest refer almost entirely to ethnicity, and a little bit to sexuality.

2) Racism, Sexism, Heterosexism, and Religionism is still unacceptable. You are free to debate the merits and consequences of any sexual lifestyle or religion. You are free to discuss cultural issues related to a race or ethnicity. But you had better serve up something better than "typical mexican" or some other thinly veiled -ism post.

3) I don't really care about profanity ... but it should be used for emphasis. It is the spice of the post, not the main course.

4) You are expected to self-moderate when it comes to curating and maintaining frequently discussed timeless content of similar issue. A thread of gay stuff. A thread for LEO issues. A thread for global warming. Etc. A good rule of thumb is: new thread for passing news (ISIS, Ebola, IRS Scandal, political races, etc) ... use an existing one for an ongoing major issue.

5) Troll Elimination Council. Because it is easier than it seems to skirt these rules and still royally piss off and annoy most of the posters (john ... okla ... I'm looking at you) ... I'd propose just for The Spin Room a committee. Representing Libertarians: GTS, Clairton Panther. Representing Conservatives: ODUsmitty, 49RFootball. Representing Centrist/Independents: Lord Stanley, BleedsHuskieRed Representing Liberals: Mach, Redwingtom. If 5 of the 8 or more think you are not worth keeping around ... it is an automatic forum ban. First offense: 2 weeks. Second offense: 6 weeks. Third offense: Permanent. I reserve the right to unilaterally double the ban length post-vote if I think you've had a particularly loathsome history.

6) If this comes to pass: the ESPN'ers and those who have joined their cause can drop this "I'm persecuted" bull****.

7) No private boards. The caves which are presently closed get deleted. It fosters an us-vs-them mindset and hive mind mentality.

IN EXCHANGE FOR THESE NEW RULES YOU GET:

1) Far looser moderation ... returning to just GTS and CP and with the expectation that if you don't use report post we don't know about it.

2) No more split boards. Spin Room WWE posts are merged back into Spin Room. Spin Room WWE is deleted. To find the poll highlight immediately below this with your mouse.

The poll is on the Support Forum under Feature Requests. In the nav: Info/Support --> Support --> Feature Requests

I've seen you post some blatantly & intentionally insulting posts about other posters, and then become thin skinned and pissy when someone else returns the same compliment to you.

You could use some self examination. I'll vote for staying the course as long as you have a vote on what constitutes acceptable posting.

GTS is in a tough spot. There's no way to satisfy everyone.

I try to follow the rule of it's OK to call a public figure whatever, that's what s/he puts her/himself out there for, but not to individual posters on here. I'll admit I've gotten pissed off enough to break that rule a few times, as all of us have, but that's at least the way I try to go.

Are these rules or suggestions? Firmbizzle still gets no spin room love.

What I've noticed since the ESPN'ers have joined us is that I no longer see posters like Owl, Torch, SOAF and BIE as conservatives. They're now moderates and even kinda liberal (Owl). 05-stirthepot

The ESPNers absolutely are the problem. no question about that. personally I think the new system needs a lil bit more time before we should consider changing it. I dunno how others feel but I think most of the complaints about the new system has been sour grapes type stuff, there is nothing being done by the mods that I have taken serious issue with.

Okla makes me feel liberal and Fit makes me feel conservative.

I honestly couldn't take any board seriously with Mach as a mod. He is the poster child of everything a mod should not be.

You totally jumped the shark with that one, GTS.

When I first read that I thought it must have been a joke. I don't think you are joking now.

I understand you need to pick a few libs, but c'mon man.
